Overview

We are working with a leading global investment bank seeking to hire an experienced Bond Trader focused on Peripheral European Government Bonds (EGBs). This is a revenue-generating role within a high-performing Fixed Income desk, requiring a trader with a demonstrable track record of strong P&L generation, deep market expertise, and the ability to operate across both flow and risk positioning.

The successful candidate will play a key role in driving trading performance across peripheral sovereign curves (e.g. Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece), contributing to both market-making and directional strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a profitable trading book across Peripheral EGBs
  • Take principal risk positions while maintaining disciplined risk management frameworks
  • Deliver consistent and scalable P&L, aligned with desk and firm objectives
  • Provide liquidity and pricing to institutional clients across cash bonds and related instruments
  • Develop and execute relative value and macro-driven trading strategies
  • Work closely with Sales, Research, and Structuring to optimise client flow and idea generation
  • Monitor macroeconomic developments, central bank policy, and political risk impacting EGB markets
  • Ensure full compliance with internal risk limits and regulatory requirements

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience trading European Government Bonds (EGBs), with a focus on peripheral markets
  • Demonstrable P&L ownership and strong revenue track record
  • Strong understanding of rates, spreads, and sovereign credit dynamics
  • Ability to price risk confidently in both liquid and less liquid environments
  • Experience operating within a flow and/or prop-style trading environment
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skill set
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with Sales and clients
  • Degree educated (Finance, Economics, Mathematics or related discipline preferred)

Desirable Skills

  • Experience trading related derivatives (futures, swaps, CDS)
  • Established relationships with key institutional clients
  • Strong grasp of ECB policy and European macro landscape
