Procurement Australia is seeking a Business Manager – Local Government to drive growth across our national portfolio by winning new members, deepening strategic council relationships, and positioning us as the trusted procurement partner of choice. Based in Melbourne, this is an exciting opportunity to influence sector growth, shape strategy, and build long-term value in a highly visible role.

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Drive new business and membership growth across Local Government councils, identifying and converting high-value opportunities.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with council executives, procurement leaders, and key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the Local Government growth strategy through market analysis, customer insights, and competitive intelligence.
  • Manage a strong pipeline of opportunities, achieve revenue targets, and maintain accurate CRM forecasting and reporting.
  • Work closely with internal procurement, contract, marketing, and operational teams to ensure smooth onboarding and strong member engagement.
  • Represent Procurement Australia at industry events, forums, and stakeholder engagements to build visibility and credibility across the sector.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven success in business development, strategic sales, or commercial account management within a B2B environment.
  • Strong experience working with Local Government or the public sector, with an understanding of procurement frameworks and decision-making processes.
  • Excellent relationship management, influencing, and negotiation skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to translate market insights into practical growth opportunities.
  • Experience using CRM systems such as Dynamics 365 or Salesforce, along with strong Microsoft Office and reporting skills.
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Procurement, or a related field is desirable, and a current driver’s licence is essential.

Location and travel

This role is based in our Melbourne office (hybrid) and supports Procurement Australia’s Local Government portfolio nationally. Interstate travel is required to engage members, develop opportunities, and strengthen our presence across the sector.
