Job Summary:

The Chief Executive Officer – Mining (Venezuela) is accountable for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and financial performance of the Group’s mining business in Venezuela. The role holds full P&L responsibility and oversight of the complete mining asset lifecycle, from exploration and development through production, optimisation, and expansion. Operating within a regulated, state-partnered environment, the CEO ensures safe, compliant, and efficient operations while delivering sustainable value to shareholders, communities, and the nation.

Key Responsibilities:

Enterprise & Country Leadership

  • Provide overall executive leadership for the Group’s mining operations in Venezuela, setting clear strategic direction and ensuring alignment with Board-approved objectives and capital allocation priorities.
  • Act as the accountable CEO for the country, representing the Group at Board level and ensuring effective governance across all mining assets and operating entities.

State Partner & Joint Venture Leadership

  • Lead and manage relationships with state-owned mining entities, government stakeholders, and joint-venture partners, ensuring compliance with concession agreements, state participation requirements, and operating frameworks.
  • Chair or actively participate in joint-venture boards and governance committees, ensuring alignment between partners and disciplined execution of agreed strategies.

Mining Operations & Production Excellence

  • Oversee exploration, mine development, extraction, processing, logistics, and export activities, ensuring production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in line with approved mine plans.
  • Drive continuous improvement in productivity, recovery, cost efficiency, and asset utilisation across all mining sites.

Regulatory, Legal & Fiscal Compliance

  • Ensure strict compliance with Venezuelan mining laws, concession and licensing obligations, royalty regimes, taxation, foreign exchange requirements, labour law, HSE standards, and environmental permitting.
  • Maintain effective relationships with regulatory authorities to safeguard operating continuity and renewal of licences and permits.

Financial Stewardship & Capital Discipline

  • Hold full accountability for P&L performance, budgeting, forecasting, working capital, and financial reporting for the Venezuelan mining business.
  • Lead capital planning and investment decisions, including sustaining capital, expansion projects, and productivity investments, ensuring disciplined capital allocation and value-based decision-making.

HSE, ESG & Community Engagement

  • Champion a zero-harm safety culture across all operations and contractors, embedding HSE as a core leadership discipline.
  • Ensure responsible environmental management, effective community engagement, social investment programmes, and alignment with national requirements and international ESG standards.

People, Organisation & Performance

  • Build, lead, and retain a high-performing executive and operational leadership team.
  • Develop local leadership capability, succession pipelines, and performance management frameworks that support sustainable long-term operations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy, or a related technical discipline is required.
  • Postgraduate qualification or MBA is preferred.

Experience

  • 20+ years of progressive experience in the mining or natural resources sector.
  • Proven track record in senior executive or CEO‑level roles with full accountability for large, capital‑intensive mining operations and P&L responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in regulated and state‑partnered mining environments.

Knowledge and skills

Mining Operations & Asset Management: Deep understanding of the full mining lifecycle, including exploration, mine development, production, optimisation, and closure planning.

State Mining Frameworks: Strong knowledge of concession‑based mining systems, state participation models, and regulatory compliance in emerging markets.

Financial & Commercial Acumen: Advanced capability in P&L management, cost optimisation, capital planning, and long‑term value creation.

HSE & ESG Leadership: Proven ability to lead safe, responsible operations with strong environmental and community performance.

Technical Competencies:

Mining Operations & Asset Lifecycle Management:

Ability to lead and optimise large‑scale mining operations across exploration, feasibility, mine development, production, optimisation, and expansion phases, ensuring technical integrity, productivity, cost efficiency, and asset longevity.

State‑Partnered Mining & Concession Management:

Expertise in managing concession‑based mining operations and joint‑venture structures, ensuring compliance with concession terms, state participation requirements, and operating agreements while maintaining effective partner alignment.

Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainable Mining:

Demonstrated leadership in embedding zero‑harm safety culture, environmental stewardship, tailings governance, and responsible mining practices across all operational activities and contractors.

Mining Financial & Capital Governance:

Strong capability in overseeing mining economics, capital‑intensive investments, sustaining capital programmes, and expansion projects, ensuring disciplined capital deployment and long‑term value optimisation.

Operational & Supply Chain Resilience:

Ability to manage operational and supply‑chain risks inherent in mining operations, ensuring continuity of production, logistics reliability, and robustness across critical suppliers and infrastructure.
