Serves as the primary liaison between the Sewer District and local government agencies, elected officials, community stakeholders and residents to support project planning and implementation. Coordinates outreach efforts, facilitates stakeholder communication, builds collaborative relationships, and promotes positive community relations to advance the Sewer District’s work while addressing community concerns and local priorities. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides interpretation and promotes goodwill within government affected by Sewer District projects. Implements government involvement action plans relating to major construction projects. Facilitates two-way communication of concerns and suggestions and provides information to appropriate governments concerning applicable projects.
- Develops and supports government relationships, awareness and support of the Sewer District. Facilitates grass roots organizing in support of organizational initiatives. Attends relevant governmental meetings.
- Effectively coordinates government affairs activities to ensure that issues are communicated quickly and accurately to appropriate internal and external stakeholders. Investigates and reports government issues to Sewer District leadership.
- Plans and executes functions for various government relations projects.
- Conducts facility tours for government officials as needed. Attends and participates in Sewer District government events as necessary.
- Prepares and maintains written and oral scripts, reports and information for management and employees.
- Prepares and presents status reports. Provides updates to employees as needed. Relays information from governmental offices regarding related legislation.
- Prepares government documents. Makes arrangements and prepares presentations for formal meetings with government officials.
- Builds and maintain working relationships with local government, community stakeholders and civic leaders.
- Organizes and solicits speaking engagements to elected officials, community groups and organizations. Works with other departments to support and recruit staff to help fulfill speaking engagements. Coordinates the development of audio-visual and printed support materials.
- Partners with a variety of internal departments, communication organizations and local government interests to establish program objectives and meet overall metrics.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree preferably in Business, Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, Public Relations or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE
- Candidate must possess five (5) years of experience in government affairs and/or community relations, a liaison-type position with government and civic constituencies and the general public.
- Experience must include three (3) years of supervising, managing, and/or leading people, projects and/or processes.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidate must possess a valid state of Ohio driver’s license with a driving record in accordance with the Sewer District’s acceptable guidelines.

- Candidate must possess effective written and verbal communication, organizational skills and decision-making abilities.
- Candidate must possess strong public speaking skills.
- Candidate must be detail oriented and capable of managing large amounts of data, maintain detailed comprehensive records, analyze and organize information, have effective project and time management skills and be well organized.
- Candidate must possess the ability to effectively plan, coordinate, establish and maintain effective working relationships and prioritize workloads based on available resources.
- Candidate must possess ability to continuously take on complex projects and additional responsibilities.
