The Self‑Reported Data Unit (SRDU) within the Compliance and Investigations Department ensures the accuracy, completeness, and quality of data submitted by Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to TEA. These data are essential to understanding school performance, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. SRDU achieves this through data monitoring and analysis, conducting compliance reviews and investigations, and working closely with both internal and external stakeholders.

The Compliance Analyst performs highly complex (senior‑level) compliance analysis work related to self‑reported data concerns, primarily through conducting reviews that are complex or large in scope. This role supports SRDU’s annual data validation projects related to state accountability data and commissioner priorities and may contribute to other initiatives as needed. The analyst helps ensure data quality and regulatory compliance by evaluating programs, policies, and documentation, and by preparing clear, actionable reports that inform leadership and support agency decision‑making.

Position Overview:

This position offers an opportunity to lead meaningful work that directly impacts the quality of education for millions of Texas students. The position reports to SRDU’s Project Supervisor and is expected to exercise sound judgment and work effectively with limited supervision to produce comprehensive, well‑supported technical reports and recommendations, consistently meeting established deadlines and quality standards.

Essential Functions

  • Compliance Review and Analysis: conducts complex compliance reviews related to data submitted by LEAs, analyzes documentation, policies, procedures, and data to determine compliance with applicable state and federal requirements, including the Texas Education Code and Texas Administrative Code.
  • Case Management and Work Planning: independently manages assigned compliance cases from intake through resolution, including prioritizing work, tracking deadlines, coordinating required inputs, and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
  • Written Products and Recommendations: prepares accurate, well organized, and well supported written materials summarizing analyses, findings, and recommendations; ensures written products align with supervisory guidance, unit standards, and agency expectations.
  • Collaboration and Consultation: collaborates professionally and effectively with internal TEA staff, including legal, investigative, and program areas, using clear, timely communication and sound judgment to coordinate input, resolve issues, and contribute to consistent, appropriate agency action related to data compliance concerns.
  • Quality Assurance and Professional Practice: supports leadership to ensure stakeholders have the information and tools necessary to establish accurate local practices and data; applies established procedures, templates, and guidance consistently; incorporates feedback to improve work quality; and ensures compliance with applicable confidentiality and records requirements.
