The Drinking Water and Environmental Compliance Division's regions, along with district and area offices, are the primary compliance delivery arm of the ministry, protecting the environment and human health in communities across Ontario. Our teams apply a risk-based approach and a range of compliance tools to improve environmental and human health outcomes, while working in partnership with the ministry's investigations and enforcement program, and with communities and key stakeholders to identify and address complex, environmental problems.

Deliver on Business Goals and Priorities
Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards the achievement of their business goals. It will be your responsibility to inspire and motivate your team to deliver their best performance and align the team's daily actions with the strategic vision of the ministry.
As the Supervisor, you will:
- Lead/supervise a team of staff undertaking complex environmental remedial projects, inspections, and spill responses.
- Develop area work plans, assign work to Environmental Officers, evaluate performance, and provide coaching, mentoring and guidance to staff.
- Provide expert advice to plan, implement, and evaluate resource management programs, ensuring government program commitments are met.
- Work towards achieving environmental compliance within a large geographic area.
- Create strong working relationships with internal and external partners, fostering stakeholder involvement, education, and awareness.
- Leads program and service delivery evaluation process to measure the effectiveness of programs, identify gaps and make recommendations for improvements.
- Make decisions regarding enforcement actions and provide expert testimony and evidence on environmental issues.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
• A valid Ontario Driver's Licence (Class “G”).
Leadership Skills:
- You can lead and motivate a diverse team to provide services and achieve organizational goals in a climate of transformation while maintaining a positive work environment.

- You can learn and apply human resources management practices and guidelines (e.g., collective agreements, performance management, recruitment) in a fair and transparent manner.
Technical Knowledge:
- You have knowledge of the application of Ministry legal instruments (e.g., Certificates of Approval, permits, field orders) to manage compliance.
- You know abatement technologies and practices to manage and address environmental problems.
- You understand the applied sciences (e.g., hydrogeology, biology, chemistry, phytotoxicology).You can accurately interpret and apply environmental legislation (e.g., Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Pesticides Act).
- You understand the processes related to legal proceedings and spill response procedures, including the role of other agencies responding to spill situations.
- You coordinate and manage the activities related to spills response and environmental emergencies.
Communication and Relationship Management Skills
- You are a skilled communicator with the ability to present complex information in a clear and logical manner.
- You have demonstrated relationship building skills and an ability to develop consensus and manage stakeholder needs.
- You can foster strong working relationships with internal partners and external stakeholders including local businesses, Indigenous communities, organizations,and government agencies.
- You can engage in effective facilitation and negotiation activities.
Program Delivery, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- You can assess the effectiveness of programs and service delivery to identify trends, gaps, impacts and issues, establish best practices, and provide evidence-based program improvement recommendations.
- You can apply your advanced analytical skills to support the senior management team in leading program reviews, delivering on new program commitments, and implementing new and innovative programs and technologies to support regulatory responsibilities.
- You can assess complaints related to public health and environmental concerns and respond accordingly, escalating more complex or contentious issues to the Senior Manager.
