PPA invites applications from Canberra-based advisers from the defence, cyber, health, communications, and energy sectors to support our broad portfolio of global and Australian clients. You will lead the design, development, and implementation of bipartisan government engagement and public affairs strategies. This role would suit a former political adviser, a member of the Australian Public Service, or an industry association stakeholder engagement manager.
The role will entail:
- Utilising your government relations and parliamentary engagement skills in a high-impact role in an exciting, fast-paced work environment
- Developing, designing, and directing public policy and government relations engagement campaigns
- Leading engagement with clients, MPs, Senators, the APS and industry peak bodies
- Providing strategic and tactical advice to clients on engagement with federal and state policymakers
- Undertaking advocacy and strengthening political relationships
- Drafting correspondence, media releases, key messages and social media posts
- Supporting the production of a range of high-profile industry association trade shows, policy symposiums, and events in Parliament House
- Identifying opportunities for clients to engage with the government, the APS, and industry and providing logistics support for client work, meetings, and events
To be successful, you will need to be:
- Canberra Based
- 2+ years working either in the Federal Parliament, Dept of Defence or Dept of Health
- Well-organised with meticulous attention to detail
- Able to demonstrate high ethical standards and integrity in all working relationships, including being able to maintain strict confidentiality when required
- Collaborative and adaptable, with a can-do attitude
- Mature and discreet with the confidence to advise senior management teams
- Able to demonstrate initiative in progressing client campaigns
- Proactive and able to thrive in a small team environment with limited supervision
Your real-world skills and experience should include:
- Excellent understanding of political, legislative, and public policy processes
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (communications, public affairs, law, politics, national security, events)
- Experience in previous ministerial offices, communications, consulting or client-facing roles is an advantage
- The ability to write clearly and succinctly
- Strong verbal communication skills – and an ability to influence media and other stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and competing deadlines while maintaining internal and external relationships
