Our work with government clients offers unique opportunities to shape the future of public sector reform across the world. We work with some of the most senior and influential people in government all over the world. The global Public Sector Practice was established in September 2009 so it is one of BCG’s newest and fastest growing practices. Although the Public Sector is an industry practice area, our value proposition to public sector clients draws deeply on capabilities right across our functional and industry practices – such as energy, health care, consumer (transport), organisation, corporate development (privatisation), operations and digital business models (Digital Ventures).

What You'll Do

Responsibilities (What You'll Do)

As a Consultant within our Public Sector practice, you will work alongside some of the world's leading experts to help governments, public institutions, and public organizations address their most pressing strategic and operational challenges. You will contribute to high-impact transformations that create tangible value for citizens, institutions, and society.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with senior public sector leaders, policymakers, and executive stakeholders while playing a key role in BCG project teams. You will support the design and delivery of innovative, data-driven strategies across a broad range of public sector topics, including organizational transformation, digital government, economic development, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and sustainability.

You Will

  • Work on complex, high-impact projects that combine deep public sector expertise with BCG's strategic problem-solving approach.
  • Lead analyses to address critical challenges faced by governments and public institutions, translating data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Design innovative strategies and transformation programs that improve public services, organizational effectiveness, and policy implementation.
  • Partner closely with senior client stakeholders to understand their priorities and co-create practical, tailored solutions.
  • Own project modules from hypothesis generation through execution, ensuring high-quality deliverables and measurable client impact.
  • Prepare and present findings, recommendations, and implementation roadmaps to senior client executives and BCG leadership.
  • Support business development activities by contributing to public procurement opportunities, including proposal development and client engagement across public sector opportunities.
  • Build trusted client relationships while supporting business development efforts and contributing to the growth of the Public Sector practice.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members, fostering their professional development and contributing to an inclusive, collaborative team environment.

What You'll Bring

Qualification (What You'll Bring)

We're looking for exceptional professionals who are passionate about making a meaningful impact in the public sector. You will typically have:

  • 6–9 years of professional experience within the Public Sector, including experience in strategy consulting, public institutions, government agencies, international organizations, or other relevant organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex transformation, strategy, policy, or organizational projects within the public sector.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting public sector business development through competitive tenders, with a strong understanding of public procurement frameworks, bid management, and proposal writing at both EU and national levels (e.g. Consip tenders).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Proven project management and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging senior public sector decision-makers.
  • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities, with a collaborative and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Outstanding academic credentials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Italian and English.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to travel as required.

Compensation Information

Total compensation for this role includes base salary and a benefits package described below. Our Reward Philosophy is to take a holistic approach to offer a comprehensive package which includes market-competitive base salary and benefits that can support both physical and mental health. Our philosophy drives our actions and aims at being competitive, fair and easy for employees to understand. We are committed to ensuring that BCG is the best place for you to thrive and grow.

The annual base salary for this role is at least EUR 87.000. Employees may also be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
