About the Role
We are seeking an experienced correspondent for its newsdesk to focus on policy and social issues. The ideal candidate is a dynamic correspondent with a strong understanding of domestic policies and policymaking. He or she should have strong language and editorial skills, and be able to generate original story ideas.
Responsibilities:
Develop, report, write and produce news stories and features for The Straits Times and all its platforms. You are required to present your articles in an organised and interesting way to educate and entertain our readers. In addition to cultivating a broad and deep base of contacts, you need the ability to spot and analyse trends, stay on top of your beat, and look for exclusive stories.
You will be required to interview newsmakers, attend press conferences and major events to cover newsworthy stories. Besides producing stories for ST's online and print platforms, you will work with the video, digital, graphics and photo teams to produce multimedia packages with impact.
Requirements:
- Degree from a recognised university
- Excellent command of English and strong writing skills
- At least 5 to 10 years of journalism and/or government policy experience
- Sound judgement, resourcefulness, and the ability to work quickly under pressure
- Ability to work both independently as well as in a team
- Knowledge of digital technology is an advantage
- Willingness to be rostered to work on shifts, weekends and/or public holidays
