Job Overview

The Parker Police Department seeks a skilled and detail‑oriented Crime Scene Investigator to uncover the truth, support criminal investigations, and help deliver justice in a collaborative environment. The CSI works closely with patrol officers, detectives, and regional partners, ensuring evidence integrity and investigative excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to crime scenes and other incidents to identify, document, collect, preserve, package, transport, and store physical evidence according to established protocols.
  • Process crime scenes using photography, measurement, sketching, and written documentation.
  • Maintain evidence integrity by labeling, packaging, securing, and documenting chain of custody.
  • Conduct laboratory and field examinations of evidence consistent with training, certification level, and assigned responsibilities.
  • Prepare accurate and complete reports related to crime scene processing, evidence handling, and laboratory casework.
  • Attend autopsies and other forensic examinations to document observations and collect evidence as assigned.
  • Testify in court regarding crime scene processing, evidence handling, and forensic findings.
  • Maintain, inventory, and stock equipment, supplies, and materials related to crime scene and laboratory operations.
  • Ensure facilities, vehicles, and equipment are maintained in a safe, sanitary, and operational condition.
  • Assist with training activities, technical guidance, or informational support for department personnel or community programs as appropriate to assignment level.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least twelve (12) months of related experience.
  • Current International Association of Identification (IAI) Level I, II, or III certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, forensic science, chemistry, biology, or related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Colorado with a safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background check, including criminal history search, job suitability exam, credit check, and polygraph examination.
  • Knowledge of property and evidence handling, latent processing, crime scene photography, scientific method, and related office practices.
  • Ability to testify in court, communicate effectively with the public and colleagues, work under stress, and maintain IAI certification.
  • Ability to perform on‑call work, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts.

Compensation

Hourly salary ranges (dependent on level, experience, and certification):
Crime Scene Investigator I – $33.53/hr – $48.62/hr
Crime Scene Investigator II – $36.88/hr – $53.48/hr
Crime Scene Investigator III – $40.57/hr – $58.82/hr

Work Hours & Schedule

Typical shifts: four (4) ten‑hour shifts from 6 am to 4 pm. Nights, weekends, holidays, and on‑call rotations may be required.
