Job Title: Data Protection Specialist

Department: Information Security

Role Purpose: Execute, implement, and maintain Microsoft Purview data protection solutions to secure enterprise data. This role focuses on operational tasks such as applying sensitivity labels, DLP policies, encryption, monitoring, and compliance checks across Microsoft 365, Azure, and hybrid environments.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Apply sensitivity labels and DLP policies to all data and documents
  • Encrypt sensitive information across cloud and on-premises environments
  • Implement data classification frameworks in Purview
  • Track data access and usage via Purview audit logs
  • Detect and report any security breaches or policy violations
  • Generate operational compliance reports
  • Apply data retention, deletion, and eDiscovery policies
  • Ensure day-to-day compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, and internal rules
  • Escalate any operational gaps immediately
  • Integrate Purview with Microsoft 365 security tools and approved third-party solutions
  • Perform routine system maintenance and configuration updates
  • Support operational workflows using Purview tools
  • Maintain detailed documentation of Purview configurations and operational procedures
  • Assist users in following correct data handling procedures

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or related field
  • 1–2 years hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview
  • Expertise in data classification, sensitivity labeling, DLP, and encryption
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 security tools and Azure services (AD, Defender for Cloud)
  • Experience in operational governance and compliance
  • Preferred: Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert (MS-102) or Microsoft Information Protection Administrator (SC-400)
  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Purview architecture
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 security tools, Azure services, and PowerShell scripting
  • Strong understanding of encryption, access control, auditing, and operational data security principles
