Our client is an Austrian-owned family business with a strong international presence in the bio feedstock and biofuels sector.
Position Summary
The Director / CEO – India Operations will serve as the senior-most executive responsible for leading the Indian subsidiary with full strategic, operational, commercial, and governance accountability.
This role requires a highly capable leader who can successfully balance business growth, operational excellence, stakeholder management, and cross-cultural leadership while acting as the critical bridge between the Austrian parent company and Indian operations.
The incumbent will play a key role in strengthening the company’s market position, building government and industry relationships, ensuring compliance excellence, and aligning local execution with global strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Business Management
- Lead the India business with complete ownership of strategy execution, operational performance, profitability, and long-term growth
- Drive the expansion of the Used Cooking Oil collection network and strengthen the company’s position within the biofuel and renewable energy ecosystem
- Develop and implement annual business plans, operational strategies, and growth initiatives aligned with group objectives
- Identify new business opportunities, partnerships, and market expansion possibilities across India
- Ensure achievement of revenue, profitability, and operational KPIs
2. P&L Management & Financial Oversight
- Assume complete responsibility for the P&L of the India operations
- Drive sustainable financial performance, cost optimization, and operational efficiencies
- Monitor budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and overall financial health of the organization
- Ensure robust financial governance, reporting accuracy, and compliance with group standards
- Work closely with finance and audit teams to maintain transparency and accountability
3. Operations & Supply Chain Leadership
- Oversee end-to-end operations including procurement, collection networks, logistics, vendor management, and operational execution
- Strengthen operational processes, systems, and efficiencies across multiple locations in India
- Ensure high standards of quality, safety, compliance, and operational reliability
- Lead operational scale-up initiatives to support business growth objectives
- Build strong internal controls and performance monitoring systems
4. Team Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead, inspire, and develop a workforce of 200+ employees across multiple functions and locations
- Build a high-performance, accountable, and values-driven organizational culture
- Develop leadership capability within the organization and ensure succession planning for key roles
- Foster employee engagement, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Drive performance management and organizational effectiveness initiatives
5. Austria – India Strategic Coordination
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Austrian Group Board and Indian operations
- Translate global strategy into locally relevant and executable business plans
- Provide strategic insights to Austrian leadership regarding Indian market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, labour practices, compensation benchmarks, and business culture
- Ensure alignment between global expectations and local operational realities
- Facilitate transparent, timely, and effective communication between all stakeholders
6. Government Relations & Regulatory Affairs
- Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant government authorities, ministries, and regulatory bodies
- Liaise with agencies including Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Food Safety authorities, environmental bodies, and local state departments
- Lead all licensing, permit renewals, approvals, and compliance-related matters
- Represent the organization in industry forums, trade bodies, and policy discussions
- Monitor policy developments and assess their impact on business operations
7. Commercial & Business Development
- Strengthen relationships with key customers, strategic partners, and industry stakeholders
- Support business development initiatives across the biofuel and renewable energy value chain
- Identify strategic alliances, partnerships, and commercial opportunities
- Represent the organization at senior-level client meetings, conferences, and industry platforms
- Enhance market presence and brand credibility within the sector
Desired Candidate Profile
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Energy Management, or related discipline
- MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification preferred
Experience Requirements
- 18–25+ years of overall professional experience with significant leadership exposure
- Proven experience as Managing Director, CEO, Business Head, Country Head, or equivalent senior leadership role
- Strong exposure to multinational or foreign-owned business environments
- Experience in renewable energy, biofuels, agri-commodities, waste management, logistics, supply chain, chemicals, or related industries preferred
- Demonstrated success in handling large-scale operations and multi-location teams
- Strong understanding of Indian regulatory, compliance, labour, and taxation frameworks
- Experience managing government stakeholders and policy-related matters preferred
- Strong commercial acumen with hands-on P&L ownership experience
