Job Details
The Director in this role is responsible for the oversight of Government Contract Operations. This position will maintain and expand Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and other documentation to support the government contracting and contract management process. The Director of Government Contract Operations will be responsible for providing support during audits, contract negotiations, modifications, and the renewals. They will also be responsible for supporting the execution of Government bids.
As an operational leader, this position will ensure the operational requirements are met across the enterprise throughout the term(s) of active Government Statements of Work (SOW).
Objective
Drive Cencora’s success in US federal, state, and local government contracts, ensuring compliance, optimizing performance, and strategically positioning the company to execute on the Government Contract portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Management:
Shape the long-term government contract management strategy in alignment with organizational goals. Drive innovation in government contracting processes to position Cencora as a leader (World Class) in the industry. Identify emerging opportunities in federal, state, and local government markets. Oversee execution of government contracts, ensuring compliance and optimal performance. Align internal teams across the enterprise to meet and exceed contract requirements.Coordinate operational requirements and deliverables.
- Stakeholder Liaison:
Serves as a liaison with federal, state, and local agencies, cultivating collaborative relationships to drive program success. Coordinate cross-departmental efforts to fulfill contract obligations. - Performance Optimization:
Design and implement strategies to enhance contract effectiveness. Develop and monitor metrics and provide insights to leadership. Facilitate cross‑functional teams to achieve high performance standards and synchronize shared responsibilities. - Compliance and
Risk Management:
Ensure adherence to federal and state regulations. Monitors and compiles report on status to internal stakeholders, proactively identifying potential issues and proposing mitigation strategies to address potential risks in contracts.
- Project Management:
Lead project management processes for timely contract delivery. Utilize tools to track and streamline operations. - Process Improvement:
Develop compliant SOPs to improve productivity. Complete government‑compliant invoicing and related tasks. - Strategic Innovation and Growth:
Identifying potential new business opportunities to utilize Cencora’s core and expanded competencies within the government sector (e.g., emerging markets, new contract vehicles) where possible.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, or similar; advanced degree preferred.
Experience
- 7+ years of progressive experience in government contracting and/or contract management, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
- Advanced knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and state/local procurement regulations, as well as customer-based experience, is preferred.

- Expertise in contracting and compliance, strong leadership and communication, strategic planning, proficiency in project management.
- Strategic thinker, detail-oriented, compliance-focused, strong communicator, and collaborative problem-solver.
- Preferred training as Government Contract Officer and/or Acquisition Professional.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret government regulations, including FAR and various state agency regulations.
