This is for a permanent full-time position, working 75 hours biweekly.

The Mineral Tenure and Exploration Branch regulates exploration and mining activity under the Quartz Mining and Placer Mining Acts with the goal of encouraging responsible development and a sustainable industry in the Yukon.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, this position is responsible for directing, managing and evaluating the Yukon’s overall approach and strategies for mineral exploration, development, and management through the provision of direction, administration and implementation of departmental and individual mineral sector business and action plans. This position is a key member of the Energy, Mines and Resources senior management team and is responsible for providing vital advice and facilitating resolution of issues impacting the mineral industry while protecting the environment and public interests. This position provides leadership to establish a workplace culture of continual improvement of program and service delivery.

Essential Qualifications

- University Degree in Engineering, Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Resource Management or a related field
- Significant management experience in a government or corporate setting, leading and providing strategic advice, direction and recommendations on complex projects and initiatives involving First Nations and federal, provincial and/or territorial governments
- Experience implementing and evaluating legislation, regulations, strategic plans, programs and/or policies
- Significant experience managing financial and human resources (including leading teams, coaching and mentoring)
- Working knowledge of mineral exploration and mining would be an asset
- Working knowledge of the Yukon Government’s policy and legislative approval processes would be an asset
- Experience in First Nation consultation and a working knowledge of Yukon First Nations Final and Self-Government Agreements, the Devolution Transfer Agreement and/or matters related to consultation and Aboriginal rights would be an asset
