Position Overview

The Alabama Policy Institute seeks a high-capacity, mission-aligned professional to serve as the Director of Leadership Development & External Relations. The Director is responsible for the end-to-end execution of API’s leadership development initiatives, internship program, and the strategic management of our external ambassador networks. 

Key Responsibilities

Lead implementation and logistical management of API’s leadership development frameworks. Manage relationships with guest experts, national policy partners, fellows, and visiting scholars.

Manage the recruitment, vetting, and evaluation of participants in internship, fellowship, and leadership roles. Connect program alumni with API leadership and board members for mentorship, expert testimony opportunities, and strategic policy contributions.

Oversee the transition of program graduates into API’s permanent influence network, ensuring long-term engagement. Build and maintain integral relationships with corporate leaders, legal professionals, and government officials.

Build metrics and mechanisms for continuous improvement, measuring how programming shifts the state's trajectory and strengthens the social sector. Oversee program budgets, ensuring all initiatives meet executive-level standards for quality and professionalism.

Applicants must demonstrate a firm commitment to the principles of Free Markets, Limited Government, and Strong Families and must be prepared to defend the moral foundations of liberty and the Alabama Policy Institute's mission in all professional contexts. 

Experience in policy nonprofit, philanthropy, or leadership development. Exceptional written and oral communication skills required.
