    Job Description

The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) is the peak industry body representing Queensland’s resources sector, including coal, gas, critical minerals and metals. The sector plays a critical role in Queensland’s economy, employment and regional development.

We are seeking an experienced Economist to provide high quality economic analysis and advice to support QRC’s policy development, advocacy and engagement with government, industry and the business community.

    About The Role

The Economist is a trusted internal advisor responsible for delivering robust, independent economic analysis to inform QRC submissions, briefings, public commentary and engagement with policy makers.

The role focuses on economic evidence, modelling and impact analysis across areas including taxation, competitiveness and productivity, energy markets, infrastructure and investment conditions. It is suited to an experienced economist who can apply disciplined economic analysis to complex policy, investment and commercial issues influencing the resources sector in a dynamic operating environment.

    Key Accountabilities Include

    • Provide clear, defensible economic analysis to support QRC policy positions, submissions and advocacy about challenges and opportunities for the resources sector.
    • Lead development of QRC’s flagship economic outputs, including the Economic Contribution Report and other cost‑impact and competitiveness analyses.
    • Analyse the economic impacts of proposed or existing policies such as taxes, royalties, energy regulation and infrastructure pricing.
    • Monitor and assess economic trends affecting the resources sector at state, national and international levels.
    • Prepare briefing notes, presentations and analysis for QRC leadership, the QRC Board, government stakeholders and member companies.
    • Provide economic data, modelling and scenario analysis across diverse portfolios, including exploration, workforce, diversity and indigenous affairs.
    • Engage with external economists, consultants, government agencies and members to source data, test assumptions and strengthen analysis.
    • Represent QRC in technical forums or briefings where economic expertise is required.

    Qualifications And Experience

    • Tertiary qualifications in Economics or a closely related field.
    • Experience in an economist or economic analyst role, ideally in government, consulting, industry or a policy focused organisation.
    • Familiarity with Queensland, Australian or global energy and resources markets will be highly regarded.

    Why join QRC?

This Role Offers The Opportunity To

    • Work on high impact economic issues shaping one of Queensland’s most important sectors.
    • Produce analysis that directly informs board level decisions and government policy.
    • Operate in a respected, pragmatic organisation with strong access to decision makers.
    • Exceptional package of benefits and career progression opportunities.
    • Hybrid working arrangements
    • Enjoy a collaborative, professional working environment in Brisbane’s CBD.
