Contrafed Publishing has been producing magazines for New Zealand’s infrastructure industries for more than 50 years.
Contrafed Publishing is a successful independent industry magazine publisher. The industry organisation shareholders established the company in 1976 for its founding title, Contractor, and have continued to own and support the company ever since. Over time titles have been added to the portfolio, which now includes: Contractor, New Zealand Quarrying & Mining (Q&M) and Local Government (LG) magazines.
About the role
Our current Editorial Manager ensures that the 3 titles (2 monthly 1 Bi-Monthly) produced are consistently viewed as essential reading for the audiences we serve. Due to his retirement we are now seeking someone to continue to build on his success, ensuring that our content is kept to the highest standards.
This is an exceptional opportunity for someone with a strong journalistic/boutique magazine publishing background to be part of a small team keeping our shareholder members informed both in print and online.
To win this role you will need to be confident interviewing subjects at a front-line level. You will have the drive and initiative to develop and maintain a network of contacts. The ability to produce accurate, proof-ready copy in a time-pressured environment will be important. This is a highly collaborative role that requires strong editorial judgement, commercial savvy and an ability to work to deadlines.
The business is customer-focused and you will be required to initiate and attend regular subject visits and key industry annual conferences.
You will need a strong interest in the sectors covered, and how they contribute to the development of New Zealand. An ability to deal directly with senior Government and industry leaders is essential, as well as businesses and stakeholders operating in the sectors.
Core parts of this role include the planning and designing of the magazines (in conjunction with the Sales Manager and external designers), reviewing and organising editorial content (both supplied and created internally) to meet the deadlines required for printing and distribution. Previous experience in magazines or other print media as well as a commercial focus is essential.
The role is based at our offices in Mount Eden Village, Auckland.
