Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) operates in around 170 countries and territories, including Jordan since 1976, supporting governments and communities to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, and build resilience. As the UN’s lead development agency, UNDP plays a central role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. In Jordan, the Climate and Energy Portfolio under the Sustainable Green Pathways and Inclusive Growth framework supports national priorities on environmental protection, climate change mitigation, disaster risk reduction, green economic growth, innovation, and gender mainstreaming. This UN Volunteer assignment contributes to UNDP Jordan’s Climate and Energy Portfolio, which supports Jordan’s transition toward sustainable, low‑carbon, and climate‑resilient energy systems, aligned with national policies such as the Economic Modernization Vision, National Climate Change Policy (2022–2050), Energy Strategy Action Plan (2020–2030), and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Description of Duties

  • Support assessments of energy demand, consumption patterns, and impacts of energy constraints across key sectors.
  • Contribute to design and implementation of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and demand‑side management initiatives.
  • Support development of investment‑ready energy and climate project pipelines.
  • Assist in technical assessments, feasibility studies, and sector diagnostics.
  • Support alignment of energy interventions with national climate and energy policies, including NDC 3.0.
  • Contribute to climate finance initiatives (e.g. SEIA, EERF) and preparation of concept notes, project documents, and donor proposals.
  • Facilitate coordination with national stakeholders, financial institutions, and development partners.
  • Support monitoring, reporting, documentation of lessons learned, and knowledge products.
  • Promote integration of gender equality, innovation, and volunteerism across programme activities.

Profile Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in energy systems, renewable energy, climate policy, sustainable development, or related fields.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the energy sector, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, or energy policy.
  • Knowledge of climate change frameworks and NDC processes.
  • Experience in project development or technical advisory roles.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and coordination skills.
  • Experience working with government institutions and multi‑stakeholder environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience with UNDP, climate finance mechanisms (GEF, GCF), ESCO models, or Jordan’s energy sector is an asset.
  • Fluency in English.
