Contex

tThe United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), established by ECOSOC in 1958, works to promote economic and social development, advance regional integration, and strengthen international cooperation for Africa’s development. The ECA Subregional Office for North Africa (SRO‑NA), based in Rabat, serves Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, and Tunisia, with a focus on structural transformation, balanced development, and job creation for women and youth. Within this mandate, UNECA is implementing the project “Enhancing Fiscal Resilience and Sustainable Finance in Africa” to help governments address rising debt burdens, improve public debt management, and expand fiscal space for national priorities, including climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals. The Associate Researcher will support this initiative through research, project coordination, logistics, and documentation, working closely with the Project Coordinator and UNECA team

.Description of Dutie

  • sConduct literature reviews, data collection, and analysis on debt sustainability, public finance, and sustainable finance
  • .Review reports on debt management, debt sustainability, and debt distress, and prepare policy briefs and technical summaries
  • .Support project implementation across the full project cycle, including data analysis, budget drafting, forecasting, and reporting
  • .Provide secretariat support to technical committees and meetings, including agendas, background notes, minutes, and follow‑up actions
  • .Coordinate internal and external meetings, workshops, missions, and stakeholder consultations
  • .Organize logistics such as travel, accommodation, participant materials, interpretation, venue setup, and technical support
  • .Maintain project databases, correspondence, deliverables, and version‑controlled documentation
  • .Draft mission reports, formal letters, and communication materials for project visibility and coordination
  • .Perform other related duties to support effective project delivery

.Profile Requirement

  • sDoctoral degree in business administration, management, public administration, or a related field
  • .At least 7 years of professional experience in economic research and project management
  • .Experience with UN, regional, or international development institutions is an advantage
  • .Strong drafting, reporting, analytical, and documentation skills
  • .Proficiency in MS Office and statistical tools such as Stata, EViews, and R
  • .Strong coordination, interpersonal, and organizational skills; ability to work under tight deadlines
  • .Interest in debt sustainability, volunteerism, and the UN system
  • .Fluency in English; working knowledge of French and Arabic
