Position: 2. Field Operator Supervisor

Lands and Resources Department

Permanent Full-Time

Qualifications:

Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree related to Land Management, Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Business Administration or First Nations Governance; and minimum of three years of experience working in a lands and resources management setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, skills and work experience; general knowledge of LSCFN’s Self-Government Agreements and Final Agreement; specific knowledge of the lands and resources provisions of the Final Agreement and Implementation Plan;

knowledge of Federal and Yukon legislation and regulations; knowledge of LSCFN workplace firearms policy; ability to contribute to the drafting of lands and resources plans and enforcement initiatives, regulations, policies and procedures; understanding of recruitment, hiring policies and supervisory responsibilities; knowledge of conflict management / resolution skills and mediation; cultural experience, understanding of First Nations challenges and opportunities; knowledge of Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation government structure, culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures and socio-economic dynamics, challenges and aspirations.

Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) training, particularly safety leadership or above would be an asset. PAL:
Boat Operators Certificate;
Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.

Main Duties:

  • Coordinates and completes administrative duties, such as, record time keeping, purchase orders;
  • Assists in recruiting, training and directing subordinate staff i.e. Game Guardians, River Rangers, Land Guardians, etc.;
  • Develops and implements field operations plans for subordinate staff and supervises a wide range of operations, including but not limited to remote location logistics planning;
  • Supervisor ensures field operations staff are trained in safety practices and carry out activities in a safe manner and according to approved Occupational Health and Safety policies, practices and procedures.
  • Implements the LSCFN workplace firearms policy including providing ammunition to staff in the morning and collecting and safety storing ammunition and firearms as appropriate;
  • Ensures deadlines are met for assigned activities and activities are carried out in a safe manner according to established safety protocols;
  • In collaboration with the supervisor and inter-departmental LSCFN teams assists in the development of health and safety programming for all land and river activities/operations;
  • Provides or coordinates the provision of training to unit staff related to safe land and river operations and equipment usage and maintenance;
  • Develops recommendations regarding operational improvements for review by the Fish and Wildlife Manager and the Lands Manager;
  • On an on-call basis responds to emergency situations from unit staff and as appropriate staff of other organizations;
  • Performs other duties as required.
