Position Summary
Plains is looking for a Government & Regulatory Affairs (GRA) Intern to join our team for an eight‑month temporary term beginning in Fall 2026. The internship is full time (40 hours per week) and based in our downtown Calgary office.
Key Responsibilities
- Support monitoring and analysis of federal and provincial regulatory and policy developments impacting Plains Canada.
- Review incoming legislation and track all issues with potential impact to Plains Canada.
- Assist subject‑matter experts in drafting comment letters to proposed legislation.
- Prepare briefing notes, stakeholder materials, trade association materials, meeting minutes, executive summaries, and internal reporting (weekly and monthly GRA updates).
- Coordinate events, meetings, and external engagement activities.
- Conduct research on emerging policy, industry trends and stakeholder issues, including potential funding opportunities.
- Write and support communication materials and lead community investment or volunteerism events.
- Provide general administrative and project support as needed.
Learning & Development
- Exposure to external affairs, government relations, regulatory monitoring, corporate communications and community investment within the Canadian energy sector.
- Hands‑on experience in drafting comment letters, briefing notes and stakeholder materials.

Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and research abilities.
- Interest in policy, energy industry, government relations or regulatory affairs.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Critical‑thinking and analytical skills.
- Excellent professional communication and writing skills.
- Good organizational and time‑management skills.
- Initiative and ability to work independently.
- Currently enrolled in a full‑time post‑secondary program, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, Business or a related field, and will not graduate before the end of the internship.
- Availability to begin on August 31, 2026, for the full eight‑month term.
- Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook) and willingness to use CoPilot AI as needed.
- Willingness to relocate to Calgary for the duration of the term and work in‑person at our downtown office.
- Not eligible for employment‑based visa sponsorship; must be authorized to work in Canada for the duration of the internship.
- Ability to provide three satisfactory references and pass a criminal background check.
