Graduate AI & Data Engineer Jobs in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia at Zentrix
Title: Graduate AI & Data Engineer
Company: Zentrix
Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Company Description
Zentrix is a specialist data and AI consultancy with over 15 years of industry experience, building real solutions for enterprise, government, and mining clients. We work across data warehouses, AI agents, and analytics platforms. We do the work properly, use modern tools, and deliver outcomes that matter to the business.
Role Description
We are seeking a Graduate AI & Data Engineer for a full-time on-site role in Melbourne, VIC. You will work directly with Power BI, SQL, dbt, Snowflake, Databricks, and Microsoft Fabric, building ELT pipelines, data models, and AI-assisted tooling from day one. You will engage directly with clients, learn enterprise source systems like SAP, and work on AI engineering problems including RAG systems, agent pipelines, and MCP integrations. This is not a test-writing role. You will be doing real work with real clients.
Our office is calm and focused. Team members come in, put their heads down, and do deep work. There is no ping-pong table and no standup where you explain what you did yesterday. If you do your best thinking when left alone with a hard problem, you will fit right in. If you enjoy spending entire days working through complex data problems on your own, that is exactly what we are looking for.
To apply for this role, read the entire ad. Start your cover message with the phrase "I build things with data". Applications that do not include this will not be reviewed. We are a small consultancy. When a client deadline is critical, the team steps up. When it matters, everyone pitches in and gets it done. That commitment goes both ways. We respect your time and reward people who deliver.
Qualifications
Must-haves:
- Bachelor of Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics/Statistics, or a related technical degree with strong programming and data coursework
- Professional-level written and spoken English. You will be writing documentation, contributing to deliverables, and communicating with clients. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must have an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent (TOEFL, PTE, or Cambridge C1)
- Strong SQL and data fundamentals
- Python or another programming language. We want to see that you can build things
- Solid Git/GitHub habits
- You use AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or Cursor daily as a core part of how you work, not occasionally and not just to experiment. You know how to prompt well, when to trust the output, and when to push back on it
- A genuine commitment to client outcomes. Our clients trust us to deliver and we take that seriously
- Confidence engaging with teammates and clients. Able to ask good questions, present your thinking, and hold your own in a technical conversation
- Curiosity about complex systems and comfort working in ambiguity
- You research first and ask smart questions second
Nice-to-haves:
- Exposure to dbt, Snowflake, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric
- TypeScript or full-stack development experience
- Interest in agentic AI, SDKs, or automation workflows
Location and Work Rights
This role is full-time in-office in Melbourne. Candidates based interstate are welcome to apply if willing to relocate before the start date. Relocation is at your own cost.
You must have Australian work rights. Citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a valid graduate (485) or work visa are welcome to apply. Offshore applicants without current Australian work rights will not be considered. Visa sponsorship may be available for the right candidate.
To Apply
Ensure you have read the entire ad carefully and understand and make sure this is the type of role that excites you. We would rather find the right person than fill a seat.
