Role Overview

The Group Client Director – Head of Qualitative is a senior insights leader responsible for shaping the vision, reputation and future direction of the Bastion Insights qualitative practice. This role is expected to elevate qualitative thinking across the business, establish a distinctive and future-focused point of view on the role of qualitative research, and build capability, frameworks and standards that position the practice at the forefront of great diagnosis and strategy. You will play a leadership role across major qualitative engagements, ensuring the depth of insight, strategic rigour and commercial relevance consistently exceed the brief. Alongside leading key accounts and contributing to revenue growth, you will bring methodological and theoretical depth, a practice-building mindset, and experience spanning commercial and social & government sectors to strengthen Bastion’s offer and expand its impact.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead the qualitative research practice area by ensuring best practise tools, processes and methodologies are adopted.
  • Deliver superior strategic thinking, elevating the role of qualitative research within the business and demonstrating the value driver it can be.
  • Think big in terms of the impact qualitative insights can unlock in the future – where connection and empathy with people can reveal genuine and nuanced truths.
  • Own the quality, rigour and strategic depth of qualitative output across the practice, setting the standard for excellence in design, moderation, analysis and storytelling, while ensuring projects deliver meaningful impact for clients.

Key Experience & Attributes

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in qualitative market research or a similar field.
  • Visionary leadership – able to define and champion a clear, future-focused point of view on the role of qualitative research and its value to clients and the business.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing, scaling or repositioning a qualitative function within an agency or consulting environment.
  • Deep methodological and theoretical expertise, with robust frameworks underpinning approach, interpretation and strategic recommendations.
  • Breadth of experience across both commercial and social & government sectors, with the ability to apply qualitative thinking effectively across different contexts and stakeholder environments.
  • Team oriented – contributes to the team, shares skills and helps others, embracing agency life and the broader Bastion culture
  • Proven capability developing and nurturing long-term trusted client relationships
  • Minimum level degree in a business, marketing or psychology related discipline
