Geo-Jade Petroleum – South Basra Integrated Project (SBIPRO) is seeking an experienced ( Iraqi Candidate ) Health and Environmental Superintendent with 10 years solid Oil & Gas experience . This role works with HSSE on Daily / or rotation basis based in Basra Iraq.
To provide specialist leadership and technical expertise in Occupational Health and Environmental Management across SBIPRO operations, ensuring effective implementation of integrated Health and Environmental management systems, regulatory compliance, and risk control.
The role is primarily focused on protecting workforce health through prevention of occupational illness, management of workplace health risks, occupational medical surveillance, and ensuring robust medical preparedness and emergency response capability across all operational locations. This includes pre-employment and periodic medical fitness programs, occupational exposure monitoring, and health risk-based decision support.
The role is also responsible for establishing and maintaining a comprehensive Medical Emergency Response System, including field-level response capability, site medical readiness, country-level medical coordination, and effective medical evacuation (MedEvac) arrangements.
In parallel, the role ensures effective Environmental Management Systems are implemented and maintained to prevent environmental degradation, ensure regulatory compliance, and minimize environmental health impacts associated with oil and gas operations.
Job Objectives:
- Ensure effective implementation of Occupational Health Management Systems across all SBIPRO operations
- Ensure structured pre-employment and periodic medical fitness-for-duty programs aligned with occupational risk exposure
- Establish and maintain a robust Occupational Health Surveillance Program for early detection and prevention of occupational illness
- Develop and sustain a comprehensive Medical Emergency Response System covering field response, site medical capability, country coordination, and escalation protocols
- Ensure full readiness and effectiveness of Medical Evacuation (MedEvac) systems and arrangements
- Prevent occupational illness through proactive health risk identification, assessment, and control
- Manage industrial hygiene programs including exposure monitoring and workplace health risk control
- Ensure compliance with Iraqi health and environmental regulations and Company HSSE standards
- Ensure effective Environmental Management Systems are implemented, monitored, and continuously improved
- Support environmental impact control including emissions, discharges, waste management, and pollution prevention
- Provide integrated technical health and environmental input into operational and project decision-making
Key responsibilities of the role (mention the role function)
Occupational Health Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain Occupational Health Management System across SBIPRO operations
- Ensure pre-employment, periodic, and exit medical fitness assessments are implemented in line with job risk profiles
- Manage occupational health surveillance programs (heat stress, noise, respiratory hazards, chemical exposure, ergonomics, biological hazards)
- Conduct occupational health risk assessments for all operational activities
- Monitor occupational illness trends and ensure timely preventive interventions
- Ensure compliance with occupational health legislation and Company requirements
- Provide health-based recommendations for fitness-for-duty and work restrictions where required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Occupational Health, Medicine, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline
- Additional certification in Occupational Health or Environmental Management is an advantage
- Knowledge in oil and gas process industry.
Minimum Experience:
- 7 – 10 years experience in Occupational Health and Environmental Management in international oil & gas companies or major EPC contractors
- Experience managing occupational health and medical service contracts within oil and gas, construction, or other high-risk industries.
- Experience overseeing remote site medical services, emergency response arrangements, and medical evacuation systems.
- Strong exposure to:
- Occupational health surveillance and medical fitness programs
- Medical emergency response systems and MedEvac coordination
- Industrial hygiene and exposure monitoring
- Environmental management systems and compliance
- Construction, drilling, and production environments
- Contractor HSE management
Job-Specific Skills:
- Strong understanding of occupational health and environmental risks in oil & gas operations
- Experience in medical emergency preparedness and response systems
- Knowledge of environmental monitoring and waste management systems
