This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit who reside in Iqaluit only.
Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services, the Hospital Maintainer (Maintainer) is responsible for the maintenance and overall function of the building and ensuring minimal downtime of specialized systems located at the hospital. The Maintainer ensures the proper and safe operation of the medical gas systems as well as monitors other infrastructure through preventative maintenance and repair in cooperation with the department of Community Services.
Hospital Maintainer Is Also Responsible For
- Completing daily routine inspection of the facility to identify risks and possible areas in which maintenance will be required and completing the required documentation for all preventative maintenance functions and repairs.
- Maintaining accurate records on work order reports, providing monthly reports to management and senior management, and scheduling and maintaining the calendar for companies contracted to perform preventative maintenance.
- Conducting routine preventative maintenance inspections and service checks, completing minor carpentry, plumbing, repairs, painting, and ensuring the general upkeep and overall aesthetics of the facility.
- Assisting the management team with strategic planning for the unit and in the development of unit goals and objectives and evaluation and monitoring processes.
- Maintaining the continuing operation of the Hospital’s communication system including emergency paging and radio systems and checking and repairing various electronic equipment.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized high school diploma, along with (2) two years of related experience in facility environment. A related trades certificate would be considered as an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
