2. About the Opportunity:
The Import Compliance Specialist supports oversight of key import operations within the AMR region. The role ensures efficient and compliant import controls and processes by acting as a subject matter expert on import regulations. This position contributes to maintaining compliance with customs regulations, minimizing risks, and delivering cost-saving improvements. The role is critical to enabling smooth customs clearance and supporting operational teams through expert guidance and process management.
3. Responsibilities:
• Support customs compliance programs for US business units ensuring adherence to customs regulations and policies
• Interface with customs brokers, forwarders, and carriers to resolve operational import/export issues
• Identify cost-saving and duty avoidance opportunities through continuous improvement
• Resolve documentation discrepancies, valuation, and import of record issues for timely customs clearance
• Conduct compliance reviews, customs entry audits, and export audits; perform root cause analysis
• Develop KPIs for compliance measurement and participate in Quarterly Business Reviews with brokers
• Act as a subject matter expert for Trade Compliance systems including SAP-GTS, providing troubleshooting and support
• Assist operations team in remediating errors and reducing border delays and risks
• Determine and maintain HTS and ECCN classifications in internal systems
• Analyze import/export data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for savings
• Implement and document SOPs; deliver related training to stakeholders and providers
• Execute internal controls and best practices to maintain compliance and reduce risk
• Manage record-keeping programs to comply with government retention policies
• Participate in due diligence and post-acquisition assessments to build trade compliance programs
• Provide operational support on import/export matters to business units
• Monitor trade and supply chain changes, communicating impacts and risks to the business
• Interface with regulatory agencies, suppliers, and customers responding to inquiries
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local security legislation and advise management
• Perform other assigned duties as needed
4. Requirements:
• Bachelor''s degree in a science-related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum 3 years of experience in trade compliance or brokerage environment
• Licensed Customs Broker strongly preferred
• Strong analytical skills with experience identifying and mitigating systemic risks
• Proficient knowledge of Free Trade, Duty Drawback, HTS, origin rules, recordkeeping, and export regulations
• Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
• Knowledge of US and Canadian regulations including FDA, Health Canada, EPA/CEPA, DEA, and TTB
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining high compliance standards
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
• The expected pre-tax pay for this position is $62,500.00 – $100,625.00
• Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geography
