Our Environmental Permitting and Management team has an ever‑growing portfolio of work built on technical excellence and exceptional service to clients. We are looking for Indigenous Environmental Field Liaison staff to provide an Indigenous perspective across a variety of environmental field activities and identify Indigenous Knowledges and values to be included in Environmental/Impact Assessments.

Location:

Toronto, Ontario. Candidates must be able to travel and preferably have lived experience.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise and communicate with First Nations, Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Indigenous consultation and engagement.
  • Develop field survey training programs tailored to specific First Nations or Indigenous communities within treaty territories.
  • Participate in field surveys including soil sampling, water monitoring and wildlife surveys.
  • Complete detailed field notes, daily reports, forms and checklists.
  • Gather Indigenous and traditional knowledge to weave into EA/IA reports.
  • Identify local protocols and provide direction to field staff to ensure respect for territorial protocols.
  • Work outdoors and lead teams on remote or rough terrain as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Biology or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with First Nations and Indigenous communities on Environmental/Impact Assessments.
  • Knowledge of provincial, federal and territorial EA/IA processes.
  • Understanding of Indigenous laws and knowledge systems.
  • Experience facilitating environmental field survey training for Indigenous participants.
  • Experience delivering cultural awareness training for internal staff.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to plan and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Lived experience is a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • OCAP certification or knowledge is an asset.
  • Experience in environmental permitting is an asset.
