Key Responsibilities
• Direct the deployment and maintenance of security infrastructure
• Lead the risk management program including IT disaster recovery and business continuity planning
• Oversee implementation of system security plans across internal teams and external vendors
• Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures
• Create and manage encryption protocols, firewall implementation, and secure data transmission practices
• Lead organization wide security awareness and training programs
• Review technical risk assessments and evaluate the security of applications, systems, and physical data centers
• Analyze results from audits, investigations, and studies to guide security strategy
• Monitor regulatory compliance and review security rules and guidelines
• Plan, implement, assess, and monitor security measures to regulate access and prevent unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure of information
• Evaluate business objectives and advise stakeholders on security, compliance requirements, and associated risks
• Develop and maintain system security plans and corrective action plans for internal and third party systems
Day to Day Responsibilities
• Manage and maintain security infrastructure and controls
• Conduct research on cybersecurity trends and emerging technologies
• Execute and monitor risk management, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiatives
• Implement and maintain system security plans across teams and vendors
• Perform security risk and compliance assessments for systems
• Support development and enforcement of information security policies and standards
• Review audit findings and support remediation efforts
• Monitor compliance with regulatory and organizational security requirements
• Maintain documentation related to security plans, assessments, and corrective actions
• Support security operations to ensure protection of information systems and data
Preferred Experience and Attributes
• Experience in information security operations, IT, or security analysis management
• Experience in information technology, security risk, and compliance management, assessment, auditing, research, or consulting
• Experience performing security risk and compliance assessments for federal systems
• Experience researching, authoring, or supporting development of information security policies and standards
• Experience in Texas state government IT or security operations is preferred
• Professional certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or CISM are preferred
• Experience using or implementing eGRC platforms such as RSA Archer is desirable
• Ability to evaluate and recommend security controls and procedures
• Experience advising business partners on security and compliance requirements
• Ability to develop and maintain system security and corrective action plans
