Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated IT Specialist to join our team in a remote capacity. This role is designed for candidates who hold an active security clearance and possess foundational IT knowledge. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers to support secure systems, troubleshoot basic issues, and ensure compliance with federal security standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Support: Provide Tier 1/2 help desk support to end-users via remote tools (VPN, secure chat, ticketing system).
- System Monitoring: Assist in monitoring network performance, system logs, and security alerts using tools like Splunk, SolarWinds, or similar.
- User Account Management: Support identity management tasks (Active Directory, Azure AD) including account creation, password resets, and access control modifications.
- Patch Management: Assist in deploying software updates and patches to ensure compliance with security policies.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of configurations, troubleshooting steps, and incident reports in accordance with compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-171, CMMC, RMF).
- Security Compliance: Adhere strictly to data handling protocols, ensuring no classified or sensitive information is exposed in the remote work environment.
Required Qualifications
Clearance
Active Secret or Top Secret clearance (must be current; interim clearances may be considered depending on the role)
Education
Associate degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent military training (e.g., IT certifications earned during service)
Certifications
Must meet DoD 8140/8570 compliance: Security+ CE (or equivalent: CISSP, CySA+, etc.) is highly preferred or required within 90 days of hire
Technical Skills
Basic understanding of: Windows/Linux OS, networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN), Active Directory, and remote desktop tools
Soft Skills
Strong communication skills, ability to follow strict procedures, attention to detail, and comfort working in a fully remote, supervised environment
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Prior military experience (e.g., Signal Corps, Cyber Transport, IT Specialist roles)
- Familiarity with RMF (Risk Management Framework) or NIST controls
- Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V) or cloud platforms (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government)
- Any additional certifications: A+, Network+, CCNA, or Microsoft Fundamentals
