The position of Sergeant is a first line supervisor for field and investigation operations in the Sheriff’s Department. The duties include the direct supervision of deputies, investigators and agents, ensuring effective execution of duties as promulgated by job descriptions, applicable laws, and department policies.
Responsibilities
- Supervise deputies, investigators, and agents in field and investigations operations.
- Ensure compliance with job descriptions, NM Motor Vehicle Codes, Criminal statutes, Fair Labor Standards Act and other laws.
- Provide technical assistance and aid in the investigation of criminal cases.
- Periodically inspect department directives and policies and ensure subordinates comply.
- Perform duties with minimal supervision; may work irregular hours and attend job-related meetings.
- May be required to participate in an “SIU on Call” roster.
- Promotion will be based on an evaluation including Written Examination, Oral Interview, Seniority, Education, and Management Review (scoring as specified).
Qualifications
- Experience supervising law enforcement personnel in field and investigations.
- Knowledge of NM Motor Vehicle Code, Criminal Statutes, and related laws.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and work irregular hours.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
