The Issues Management Unit at the Child Protection Branch has responsibility for provision of service for Intake-Inquiries and Complaints;
Child Death and Serious Injury;
Inter-provincial matters;
Statements of Claim and Post-Adoption Services.

Duties:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Issues Management and Child Deaths, the Issues Management Specialist is responsible for:

  • Responding to inquiries and complaints from the public that are referred either directly or through the office of the Minister of Families or other government sources.
  • Gathering and triaging information on all child deaths and serious injuries in Manitoba, reviewing information analytically and writing comprehensive high-level reports.
  • Providing social work service regarding children and families moving between provinces including inter-provincial disputes.
  • Coordinating Statements of Claims regarding individuals filing lawsuits against the Director of Child Welfare, including an analytical review of historic file information and creation of summaries of events for use of legal counsel in court matters.
  • Provision of Post-Adoption services to parties of adoptions.
  • Qualifications:

    Essential:

  • Master (MSW) or Bachelor (BSW) Degree in Social Work preferred or equivalent degree in a related discipline
  • Experience working within the child and family services system; preferably in various roles and capacities
  • Knowledge of the child and family services governance and practice in Manitoba
  • Knowledge of history, legislation, policy and practices regarding First Nation, Metis, and Inuit issues, including Truth and Reconciliation
  • Ability to handle highly complex and emotionally charged issues with the ability to resolve conflict
  • Experience reviewing, analyzing and synthesizing complex information
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written communication skills when preparing documents for various audiences
  • Strong political acumen to effectively communicate with a variety of individuals including senior government officials, executive management and authorities
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook and Excel)
  • Desired:

  • Knowledge with the Child and Family Services Information System (CFSIS) and the Child and Family Services Intake Module
  • Conditions of Employment:

  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check
