Junior Content Designer Jobs in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia at Reckon

Title: Junior Content Designer

Company: Reckon

Location: North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

We’re looking for a Junior Content Designer to help us in our mission to nurture the ambition of thousands of Australian and New Zealand small-medium businesses. Our team includes research, design, and content. Together, we aim to take the stress out of bookkeeping by designing intuitive accounting and payroll products that support our customers. We collaborate across the business, prioritise clear and helpful content, and use customer research and data to inform our decisions.

As Reckon’s Junior Content Designer, you’ll be focused on making complex content consumable for a wide range of user groups across varying channels. Through our content, we empower our users to confidently use our software to stay compliant with the ATO and other government departments. This means a focus on helpful and clear content in our products, onboarding journeys, and instructional help articles. Our subject matter is heavily regulated and complex, and you’ll be someone who can help extract important information and transform it into understandable, usable content – whether that be long-form help articles or short, clear button labels.

Together with our Content Lead, you'll focus on delivering high quality and impactful product-related content, in line with our overarching content strategy and with a deep understanding of how content contributes to great UX. Our work has seen us make a big impact improving the confidence of our customers as they use our products, as well as impact created throughout the business. Growing our content design function will further deepen our impact, with opportunities for you to contribute to strategic content projects to grow your skills and knowledge in content design/UX writing and content strategy.

You’ll be embedded in the Research & Design Team and will work across the business creating content for different customer archetypes. Working under the guidance of our Content Lead, you’ll drive the voice of Reckon for our customers when it comes to using our products, consult on content design matters, and uphold our content strategy. We’re a team of 8, who are empowered to ask the big questions, move swiftly, and enjoy spending time with each other – whether that’s jamming on user journeys and language decisions, or heading out for coffee walks and lunches on our 3 office days each week.

What You’ll Do

  • This is a content role, working under the guidance of our Content Lead. You won’t be responsible for visual or UI design. Instead, your passion for great content will see you working with designers and the product team on content design matters such as terminology, messaging, content flow, and user comprehension.
  • Craft in-product copy (such as button labels, error messages, tooltips), and provide feedback to designers on copy in designs
  • Write help documentation in line with our content guidelines, working to refresh the content on Reckon’s help site, help.reckon.com
  • Write other instructional content, such as onboarding tours, checklists, and guides
  • Work closely with Design, Product, Support, and Marketing, advising and coordinating on content as features are designed and released
  • Work with product experts to translate technical detail into intuitive, easy to understand language for non-experts
  • Support the Content Lead to socialise our content guidelines and strategy across the business
  • Explore and use AI tools to optimise the content process
  • Use data and research from across the business (e.g. call drivers, churn drivers, analytics, user interviews, and surveys) to inform content decisions
  • Adhere to timelines, and raise any risks and issues
  • Manage content lifecycles, ensuring content is updated and removed when required
  • Work closely with our UX Researcher to test messaging and content with users

Skills and experience

  • A portfolio demonstrating your content work (such as UX writing, content flows, terminology decisions, onboarding content, system messages, help or support content, or user-focused website content), and showing your decision-making process.

Design portfolios without substantial writing or content design examples are not suitable.

  • Excellent written skills in English
  • Experience creating customer-facing content and simplifying complex information to meet diverse user needs
  • Good understanding of UX and/or content design principles as they apply to language, content structure, and user comprehension
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Great problem-solving skills
  • Able to context switch and manage time effectively, as there will be numerous initiatives on your plate

Nice to have

  • Experience or interest in fintech and small businesses
  • Experience writing product documentation
  • Experience with accounting and payroll products
  • Understanding of SEO and accessibility (WCAG)
  • Content editing skills in Figma (e.g. working on existing designs, managing copy updates, and collaborating with designers – not creating UI or UX designs).

New jobs are all about upskilling, learning new things, and growing into the role. We’ll support you with hands-on training, attending courses, and other relevant training.
