Role Description

This full-time, on-site Junior Software Engineer role is based in Kabul Province, Afghanistan. The Junior Software Engineer will contribute to the development and maintenance of internal and customer-facing software solutions, focusing primarily on PHP/Laravel back-end web services backed by MySQL that support real estate business processes. Daily tasks include implementing new features, building and consuming REST APIs, writing clean and testable code, fixing bugs, and participating in code reviews under the guidance of senior engineers. The role also involves collaborating with product and operations teams to understand requirements, documenting technical work, and helping improve development workflows and system performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Computer Science fundamentals — foundational knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and basic software engineering principles.
  • PHP & Laravel — hands-on experience or strong coursework building web applications with PHP and the Laravel framework (routing, controllers, Eloquent ORM, Blade templates, and migrations).
  • MySQL — ability to design relational schemas and write efficient SQL queries; comfortable working with a MySQL database in day-to-day development.
  • Back-end web development — understanding of building and integrating REST APIs, handling authentication, and connecting with front-end or third-party services.
  • Object-Oriented Programming — solid grasp of OOP and the MVC pattern, applied to write clean, maintainable code.
  • Web basics — working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for integrating with front-end interfaces.
  • Version control — familiarity with Git and GitHub and basic collaborative development practices (branches, commits, pull requests).
  • Growth mindset — ability to learn quickly, follow established coding standards, and work effectively within a team.
  • Communication — good communication skills in English; fluency in Pashto or Dari is an advantage.
  • Commitment — interest in real estate technology and willingness to work on-site in Kabul Province, Afghanistan.

Preferred (Nice to Have)

  • Personal, academic, or open-source projects using PHP/Laravel (a public GitHub portfolio is a plus).
  • Familiarity with Composer, Artisan CLI, and basic Laravel testing (PHPUnit/Pest).
  • Exposure to front-end frameworks (e.g., Vue.js or React) or Livewire.
  • Understanding of deployment basics, environment configuration, or working with cloud/hosting platforms.
  • Prior experience or interest in real estate, property management, or CRM systems.
