About the role
We are a IP and transaction boutique law firm that uses AI tools to assist in research and drafting. To maintain the accuracy and integrity of our work product, we are hiring a dedicated fact checker to independently verify the legal citations, case holdings, statutory references, and quoted materials that appear in AI-assisted documents before they reach clients or courts or government agencies.
This is not a proofreading role. It requires methodical legal research skills, skepticism toward source claims, and the ability to work carefully under deadline. You will be a critical quality-control layer in our AI governance process.
What you’ll do
- Review AI-assisted legal documents (e.g., briefs, memoranda, client letters, and research memos, patent office filings) to verify the accuracy of every citation, case quotation, statement of legal authority, and scientific or technical factual claim
- Independently confirm that cited cases exist, say what the document claims, and remain good law using Westlaw, Lexis, or equivalent citator services (Shepard’s / KeyCite)
- Flag citations to overruled, distinguished, or jurisdictionally inapplicable authority
- Identify quotations that do not accurately reflect the source text
- Document all items reviewed, flagged, and resolved in a standardized verification log
- Return flagged documents to the drafting attorney with clear, specific annotations
- Maintain familiarity with how AI legal research tools generate and present citations, including common hallucination patterns
- Participate in periodic calibration sessions to improve firm-wide AI usage protocols
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (any field)
- One of the following: (a) demonstrated experience as a fact checker at a newspaper, magazine, or digital publication; (b) J.D. from an accredited law school; (c) master’s degree in library or information science (MLIS, MLS, or MSIS) from an American Library Association–accredited institution; or (d) experience as a legislative analyst, policy researcher, or regulatory affairs professional
- Comfort conducting independent legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, or comparable platforms
- High attention to detail and a naturally skeptical approach to sourced claims
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple documents simultaneously, and meet turnaround deadlines
- Reliable remote work setup with secure internet connection
Preferred qualifications
- Experience fact-checking legal, policy, regulatory, or scientific content
- Prior work in a law firm, legal publisher, or court environment
- For MLIS/MLS/MSIS candidates: experience in legal research services, law librarianship, or a law school library setting is strongly preferred
- For legislative analyst/policy researcher candidates: experience verifying citations to statutes, regulations, and agency guidance; familiarity with federal regulatory practice is a plus
- Familiarity with AI-generated text and awareness of hallucination failure modes
- Bar admission (not required, but relevant to assessing legal context)
What we offer
- Fully remote position — work from anywhere in the U.S.
- Full-time (40 hrs/week) or part-time (minimum 20 hrs/week) — your preference
- Competitive compensation: $60,000–$90,000 annually (FT) or $30–$45/hr (PT); placement in salary range reflects background and experience
- Exposure to a novel and growing area of legal practice management
- Benefits for individuals that work over 30 hours a week, unlimited PTO, full annual contribution to HSA account
How to apply
Utilize LinkedIn portal. Provide:
- Resume or CV
- A brief cover letter describing your relevant background and your understanding of AI hallucination risks in legal documents
- One or two work samples, if available (fact-checking reports, annotated documents, or comparable work product)
We review applications on a rolling basis. Antheros Legal Advisors LLP is an equal opportunity employer.
Note to candidates: This role sits at the intersection of legal research and AI quality control. We are particularly interested in candidates who approach source verification with genuine skepticism — the ability to distrust a plausible-looking citation until it is independently confirmed is the core skill this position demands.
