Logistics and SEZ Operations

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise
- Develop and implement logistics strategies to meet business objectives.
- Manage and lead logistics team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Oversee transportation operations including carrier selection, routing and delivery management.
- Manage warehouse operations including inventory management and distribution.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure logistics operations align with overall business objectives.
SEZ/FTWZ Operations & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with SEZ/FTWZ laws, customs regulations, and defence logistics compliance requirements. Oversee import/export processes and duty structures specific to SEZs.
- Coordinate with SEZ Development Commissioner, Customs Authorities, and regulatory bodies for approvals and compliance documentation.
Supply Chain Strategy
- Coordinate with Supply Chain, when required, to support logistics and inventory movement while maintaining cost and operational efficiency.
- Oversee the movement of components, spare parts and tools in and out of the SEZ/FTWZ.
- Manage bonded inventory, warehousing and Just-in-Time (JIT) logistics to support repair and overhaul timelines.
- Optimize transportation and coordinate with logistics service providers and freight forwarders for domestic and international shipments.
Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with parent OEM company and MOD customers (Army, Air Force, Navy) to align logistics operations with their requirements.
- Negotiate contracts with logistics providers to optimize costs, transit times and service quality.
- Oversee the preparation of Bill of Entry (BOE), Shipping Bills, RMA (Return Material Authorization) and Special Valuation Branch (SVB) filings.
- Ensure compliance with defense export controls (SCOMET, DGFT, BIS, RBI guidelines) for high-value and restricted items.
- Manage the re-export of repaired items in compliance with SEZ re-export norms.
- Implement an ERP system for inventory tracking, order processing, and real-time visibility of stock.
- Navigate SEZ-specific regulatory approvals, tax benefits, and compliance audits.
Risk Management & Operational Efficiency
- Identify and mitigate logistics risks ensuring zero disruptions in logistics operations across the company.
- Streamline logistics processes to reduce lead times and enhance turnaround time (TAT) for repairs.
- Ensure secure handling of sensitive and high-value defense components.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for logistics efficiency, compliance, and cost savings
- Drive process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and regulatory adherence.
General Administration
- Support day-to-day operational tasks as assigned, ensuring timely and effective completion. Promote coordination between departments such as production, sales and customer service to align with organizational objectives.
Requirements:
- Education: Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Commerce, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in logistics operations management. Preferred experience in dealing with the defense sector.
- Skills:
- Leadership in managing large-scale logistics and warehouse operations
- Ability to develop and execute logistics strategies aligned with business objectives
- Strong understanding of ERP, logistics software, and warehouse management systems
- Strong negotiation, vendor management, and stakeholder coordination skills
- Knowledge of customs, SEZ/FTWZ compliance, and regulated logistics operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, International Trade, or a related discipline.
- Experience in dealing with the defence sector, including regulated logistics, secure handling, and compliance-driven operations.
- Hands-on exposure to SEZ / FTWZ operations, customs procedures, bonded warehousing, and import-export documentation.
- Experience with ERP, warehouse management systems, and data-driven logistics planning and performance monitoring.
- Strong experience in managing cross-functional stakeholders, logistics partners, government interfaces, and strategic vendor relationships.
