Job Purpose: As Manager Competitive Governance, you will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Esports Foundation’s competitive governance structures across the Esports World Cup, Esports Nations Cup, and related competitions.
This role is suited for someone who combines strong project execution with structured thinking, stakeholder management, and the ability to support complex governance work in a fast-moving environment. You will help translate ideas, discussions, and strategic direction into clear deliverables, including governance models, project plans, presentations, tracking tools, briefing materials, process documents, and stakeholder updates.
The role will act as a key execution partner and sounding board to the Director Competitive Governance. You will be expected to manage workstreams, structure ambiguous problems, prepare high-quality materials, track progress, coordinate stakeholders, and help move governance initiatives from concept to implementation.
Duties And Responsibilities
Governance Project Delivery & Execution
- Support the delivery of key competitive governance workstreams across EF competitions, ensuring tasks are clearly structured, tracked, and completed on time.
- Translate strategic priorities, leadership discussions, and brainstorming sessions into clear action plans, deliverables, timelines, and follow-ups.
- Create and maintain project plans, governance trackers, decision logs, issue logs, risk registers, stakeholder maps, and implementation roadmaps.
- Drive the preparation of materials required for internal meetings, workshops, leadership updates, and stakeholder discussions.
- Ensure governance workstreams are well-organised, documented, and progressing against agreed milestones.
- Support the Director Competitive Governance with day-to-day execution, prioritisation, problem-solving, and follow-through.
Governance Structure & Framework Development
- Support the design and refinement of competitive governance structures across EF competitions, including decision-making processes, roles and responsibilities, escalation routes, stakeholder engagement models, and operating rhythms.
- Contribute to brainstorming and shaping governance frameworks for competitions involving clubs, national teams, players, publishers, and external partners.
- Translate governance concepts into practical operating models, rules, policies, process maps, procedures, and implementation materials.
- Benchmark governance models from sports organizations, federations, member associations, consulting projects, and major competition organizers to identify relevant best practices.
- Help assess options, structure recommendations, and prepare a clear rationale for governance decisions.
- Support continuous improvement of governance frameworks based on lessons learned, stakeholder feedback, event outcomes, and evolving business needs.
Presentations, Storytelling & Leadership Materials
- Prepare high-quality presentations, briefing documents, and leadership updates that communicate complex governance topics clearly and visually.
- Structure narratives, recommendations, and decision papers for senior stakeholders.
- Turn complex information into clear, concise, and well-organized materials for internal and external audiences.
- Build materials for workshops, governance discussions, stakeholder alignment sessions, and executive reviews.
- Support the creation of templates, dashboards, reporting formats, and communication materials to improve consistency and clarity across the function.
Competitive Integrity, Compliance & Policy Support
- Support the implementation of competitive governance and integrity policies covering fair play, anti-cheating, match-fixing, doping, code of conduct, eligibility, and disciplinary matters.
- Assist with documentation, process design, stakeholder coordination, and follow-up related to incident handling, escalation, and governance decisions.
- Help ensure governance and integrity requirements are embedded into competition operations, tournament planning, and event delivery.
- Maintain documentation, playbooks, SOPs, guidance materials, and process maps related to competitive governance and integrity.
- Support post-event reviews, internal audits, retrospectives, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Stakeholder & Partner Coordination
- Act as a day-to-day coordination point for internal and external stakeholders on competitive governance matters.
- Prepare meeting agendas, notes, action logs, decision trackers, and follow-up materials.
- Support engagement with clubs, players, national teams, member-style organisations, and other competition participants on governance expectations, rules, and compliance requirements.
- Help ensure governance processes are clear, fair, well-documented, and understood by relevant stakeholders.
- Build strong working relationships across different functions, regions, cultures, and sporting or esports ecosystems.
Reporting, Monitoring & Insights
- Maintain governance documentation, workstream trackers, issue logs, compliance trackers, incident records, dashboards, and reporting tools.
- Prepare regular updates for the Director Competitive Governance on progress, risks, open decisions, stakeholder issues, and emerging topics.
- Monitor developments in sports governance, federation models, major event governance, esports regulation, and competitive integrity.
- Provide structured analysis, options, and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve ways of working.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, International Relations, Sports Law, Governance, Compliance, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- 6+ years of relevant experience in consulting, governance, sports business, regulatory environments, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Background in consulting firms, especially with exposure to sports or governance, is highly preferred.
- Strong project execution skills with the ability to drive workstreams, track actions, and deliver high-quality outputs.
- Strong consulting-style problem-solving skills, including the ability to structure ambiguous topics and turn them into clear work plans.
- Excellent deck-building and storytelling skills, with the ability to prepare clear, polished, senior-level presentations.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to create briefing notes, reports, decision papers, process documents, and stakeholder updates.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with frameworks, trackers, dashboards, and structured reporting tools.
- Ability to act as a sounding board, challenge ideas constructively, and help shape practical recommendations.
- Good understanding of sport, sports business, major sports events, governance, federations, or competition environments.
- Ability to work with legal, operational, commercial, and external stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple workstreams in parallel.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, international, and event-driven environment.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of esports or gaming is a plus, but not essential.
