Reporting to the Coordinator, Programming and Marketing, the Marketing Assistant is responsible for assisting in developing and executing strategic communication activities that promote and raise awareness of The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts (OCPA), it's annual Presentation Season, outreach programs, rental client shows and live performance experiences for the community.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and design digital and print advertising materials including season brochures and programs, OPCA and rental client ads, Constant Contact ads, postcards, etc.
- Write and develop a variety of external communications materials including media releases, web-based communication materials, brochure and program copy, internal and external digital signage advertising and other projects as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with the Coordinator Box Office and Administration and IT to ensure all OCPA presented shows and rental client shows advertising requirements are met.
- Work collaboratively with the OCPA Manager and the Marketing and Development Coordinator to develop and implement communications strategies for specific OCPA initiatives.
- Maintain media & patrons lists. Review and edit communication materials for consistency of style, format, readability and accessibility, keeping within Town of Oakville standards.
- Identify potential issues and opportunities via daily social media reviews. Maintain, update and create content for social media accounts.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills
- Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related discipline.
- One to three years of relevant experience in corporate or municipal government communications, public relations, and marketing, with a strong preference given for experience and knowledge of live performing arts.
- Superior writing, design and editorial skills, and proven oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of online writing and presentation of content and how it differs from print.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Desktop publishing, design tools including adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat), Canva, Meta, Hootsuite, Constant Contact and other appropriate applications.
- Excellent research, project planning and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective relationships with artists, media organizations and OCPA internal departments, Town of Oakville departments like Communications, Special Events and IT, etc.
- Flexible and able to prioritize tasks and manage timelines in a fast-paced environment along with the ability to accept interruptions as part of the routine.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently and as a team player.
Note: Some weekend and evening work is required.
