The Customer Service Division is looking for a highly qualified individual to the fill the position of ¿Meter Reader I/II¿.
Job Description
Meter Reader I
General Functions
This key position performs routine entry level field work including reading meters and noting meter repair or replacement needs to include reporting malfunctioning meters and unauthorized connections.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Utilities Account Supervisor. Performance is reviewed through observation, meeting, number of meters read, accuracy and achievement of desired results.
Representative Duties/Assignments
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Reads water and reclaimed water meters accurately to ensure proper billing for customers.
- Identifies and reports unauthorized connections for further investigation, including missing meters, illegal water usage or meter tampering.
- Reports meters needing repair or replacement and any leaks discovered during meter readings, including instances where meters register consumption at the time of the visit.
- Uploads daily readings by properly docking or linking the handheld device to transmit the collected data.
- Drives to and from assigned work areas, adhering to traffic and safety laws while completing meter readings and returning to the office daily.
- Verifies routes on handheld device to ensure alignment with daily assignments, performing quality control at the start of each workday to prevent errors.
- Maintains vehicle by tracking mileage, cleaning the vehicle, refueling and reporting any damage.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Meter Reader II
General Functions
This key position performs routine and non-routine semi-skilled field work including reading meters and identifying repair or replacement needs to include reporting malfunctioning meters and unauthorized connections. Responsible for collecting accurate monthly readings from all water and reclaimed water meters within the service area, ensuring customers are billed accurately based on actual consumption, meeting bond covenants and avoiding estimated bills that could lead to customer dissatisfaction and escalations.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Utilities Account Supervisor. Performance is reviewed through observation, meeting, number of meters read, accuracy and achievement of desired results.

Minimum Qualifications (MR-I):
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver¿s License.
Minimum Qualifications (MR-I):
One (1) year of experience in meter reading. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Preferences
Must be able to work outside in inclement weather

Pay Grade: 009 – From $17.01 to $21.56
