Nature Research & Reporting Associate Jobs in Greater Kuala Lumpur at Wovoka

Title: Nature Research & Reporting Associate

Company: Wovoka

Location: Greater Kuala Lumpur

Wovoka is expanding its presence in Malaysia and is looking for a Nature Research & Reporting Associate to support our growing portfolio of climate advisory, carbon project development, and nature-based solutions work across the country.

About Wovoka

Wovoka is a climate and nature-focused project developer and advisory firm headquartered in the Philippines, with operations across Southeast Asia and Africa. We specialise in high-integrity carbon projects — ARR (Afforestation, Reforestation, Revegetation), REDD+, mangrove restoration, and agroforestry — alongside advisory services for governments, multilateral development banks, and the private sector on carbon strategy, sustainability frameworks, and biodiversity finance.

The Role

You will support a range of activities — from desk research and report writing for advisory engagements to field-level scoping of potential ARR and REDD+ project sites across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak. This is a high-output, learning-intensive role suited to someone early in their career who writes well, is organised, and has a genuine interest in forestry, carbon markets, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • • Conduct desk research on Malaysian forestry policy, REDD+ frameworks, carbon markets, and sustainability reporting standards (IFRS, GRI, TNFD, SDGs)
  • • Draft sections of technical reports, guidance documents, policy briefs, training materials, and stakeholder communications
  • • Support scoping and feasibility assessments for potential ARR and REDD+ project sites — including land-use analysis, stakeholder mapping, and regulatory review
  • • Prepare meeting materials, agendas, minutes, and progress trackers for client and internal meetings
  • • Coordinate logistics for stakeholder consultations and field visits
  • • Maintain document version control and ensure deliverables meet quality and formatting standards
  • • Support data collection and analysis on national sustainability priorities, SDG alignment, and environmental policy

Requirements

  • • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Sustainability, or a closely related field from a Malaysian university
  • • 1–2 years of professional experience, including internships, graduate attachments, or entry-level positions
  • • Strong written English — you will be drafting technical reports and guidance documents; clear, structured, professional writing is essential
  • • Familiarity with Malaysia's forestry sector, environmental policy landscape, or sustainability frameworks
  • • Proficiency in Microsoft Office / Google Workspace
  • • Based in or willing to relocate to Kuala Lumpur / Putrajaya

Nice to Have

  • • Exposure to carbon markets, REDD+, or climate finance concepts
  • • Experience with government agencies (MNRES, Forestry Department, PERHILITAN)
  • • GIS, remote sensing, or spatial analysis tools
  • • Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia
  • • Familiarity with IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, GRI, TNFD, or UNDP SDG Impact Standards
