Ports Geopolitical & Policy Consultant – Panama Canal Ports
We are seeking an experienced overseas expert to provide independent analysis on recent operational changes at Panama Canal ports.
Project Scope (Short-term, Remote):
· Deliver a 10–20 page report or series of memos with sourced analysis
· Participate in 1–2 video calls for Q&A and discussion
· Provide balanced, objective insights based on international law, geopolitics, Latin American affairs, or port economics
Ideal Candidate Profile:
· 8+ years in geopolitics, international relations, Latin American studies, maritime policy, or investment disputes
· Strong networks in Panamanian government (e.g., Maritime Authority, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) or U.S. government (e.g., State Department, congressional committees, think tanks) – priority given to candidates with such access
· Familiarity with the Panama Canal ports dispute, including: constitutional ruling on concessions, government takeover, interim management, international arbitration, and implications for U.S.-China competition, Canal neutrality, and maritime trade
· Publication or professional experience with think tanks (e.g., CSIS, Brookings, Atlantic Council, CFR, Chatham House), academia, consulting firms (e.g., Eurasia Group, Control Risks), or relevant law firms
· Deep understanding of China-Latin America relations, Panama Canal dynamics, or U.S. foreign policy in the Western Hemisphere
· Excellent English writing and analytical skills; Spanish is a plus
· Independent and objective (no conflicts of interest)
Details:
· Remote / freelance contract (individuals or small teams)
· Duration: 4–8 weeks (flexible start)
