Leadership Opportunity
The Carolina Museum of the Marine is seeking an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as its next President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Following the successful Grand Opening of the Museum in June 2026, the Board of Directors seeks an executive who will build upon this momentum by leading the Museum through its next chapter of operational excellence, institutional growth, financial sustainability, educational impact, and national prominence.
The Museum honors the extraordinary service and sacrifice of Carolina Marines and Sailors while inspiring future generations through education, leadership development, and community engagement. The CEO will also provide executive leadership for the continued development and expansion of the Al Gray Marine Leadership Forum, an educational initiative dedicated to developing principled leaders through programs, seminars, conferences, and partnerships.
Preferred Candidate Profile
The Board seeks a seasoned executive with exceptional leadership experience and a demonstrated record of organizational success.
Strong preference will be given to retired United States Marine Corps Colonels, Senior Executive Service (SES) members, or retired Flag/General Officers who possess the leadership experience, strategic vision, and national relationships to advance the Museum's mission.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Proven executive leadership experience leading complex organizations
- Exceptional strategic planning and organizational management skills
- Experience leading nonprofit, educational, military, governmental, or similarly mission-driven organizations
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and external relations
- Strong financial and business management experience
- Experience building and leading high-performing executive teams
- Outstanding written, verbal, and public speaking abilities
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships across government, military, business, education, and nonprofit sectors
- A passion for preserving Marine Corps history and inspiring future generations through leadership and education
Experience with museums, historical institutions, military heritage organizations, higher education, or nonprofit governance is highly desirable.
Location
The candidate must currently reside in, or be willing to move to, the Jacksonville NC region.
