Overview
Principal – Consulting and AI (ServiceNow) Jobs in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia at Mazing
Title: Principal – Consulting and AI (ServiceNow)
Company: Mazing
Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Help us deliver AI on ServiceNow for Australia’s regulated enterprises
Mazing is a ServiceNow Advisory, Consulting, Implementation, Partner working with regulated organisations across financial services, utilities, critical infrastructure, and state and federal government.
We’re growing, we’re selective about the work we take on, and we lead with strategy before configuration — because in our experience, that’s what actually makes a ServiceNow programme succeed.
We’re now hiring a Principal – Consulting & AI to lead our most complex engagements and to help us refine, evolve and scale Mazing’s capability on the foundation our team has already laid. It’s an important role for us, and we’re taking our time to find the right person.
About the role
This is a senior, client-facing role that sits at the intersection of strategy, architecture and hands-on delivery. You’ll lead project teams on regulated enterprise programmes, design solutions that stand up to CIO and audit committee scrutiny, and take our existing AI capability forward — refining the vision, building on what our architects have started, and helping us productise the next wave of AI-augmented delivery on platform.
We want to be upfront about the stage we’re at. Mazing is a growing scale-up with an expanding client base. The upside is real authority, airtime, and the chance to build IP that a Principal at a much larger firm wouldn’t get near. The honest trade-off is that you’ll sometimes need to roll your sleeves up and do complex development work when an engagement calls for it.
What you’ll do
- Lead project teams on multi-workstream ServiceNow programmes across ITSM, ITOM, CSDM, CMDB, SPM, SecOps, IRM/TPRM, CSM and HRSD — including Now Assist and broader AI workstreams.
- Define vision and shape demand with clients. Run discovery, translate business strategy and operating model intent into platform architecture, and produce the kind of solution designs that hold up through procurement, security review, and the life of the programme.
- Design the solution end-to-end. Own the logical and technical architecture — CSDM alignment, integration design, data model, Now Assist deployment patterns, performance and security posture.
- Refine, evolve and scale Mazing’s AI capability. Build on the foundation already in place. Help us sharpen our AI service offering on ServiceNow (Now Assist, AI Agents, AI Control Tower, custom LLM integrations), extend our reference architectures, mature our governance patterns for regulated environments, and productise accelerators and IP.
- Do the complex dev when it matters. Scripted REST APIs, complex Flow Designer and integration work, Discovery patterns, custom scoped apps, AI Agent design, tricky CMDB reconciliation — you’re willing and able to be the senior pair of hands when the engagement needs it.
- Lift the team around you. Coach Technical Architects, Senior Developers and Consultants. Run design reviews. Contribute to our engineering and advisory standards.
- Support growth. Partner with leadership on pre-sales for strategic pursuits — shaping the response, the commercials and the delivery approach, and owning the technical win.
What you’ll bring
- PS experience – Experience operating in and/or scaling up a ServiceNow professional services capability within a consulting or platform business.
- A developer’s foundation. You came up through hands-on ServiceNow development and still operate comfortably in a technical environment. Architecture is what you expanded your skills into, not that you left the technical behind.
- CTA or CMA. You hold a current ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect or Certified Master Architect designation.
- Regulated industry depth. Extensive delivery experience across financial services, utilities, and state or federal government. You understand APRA CPS 230 and 234, SOCI, Essential Eight, PSPF, AESCSF and what they mean for platform design — as architectural constraints, not just compliance language.
- AI fluency on platform. Practical experience with Now Assist, AI Agents, or LLM-integrated workflow design. If you haven’t shipped this on ServiceNow specifically, you’ve shipped it somewhere credible and can bring the pattern across.
- Proven team leadership. You’ve led multi-disciplinary ServiceNow teams through the full lifecycle, not just signed off on other people’s work.
- C-Suite credibility. At least 3 years of direct experience working with C-Suite executives — CIOs, CFOs, COOs, General Counsel, CROs — as a trusted advisor. You can hold your own in senior rooms, make your case clearly, and update your position when the evidence calls for it.
- MBA or demonstrable equivalent. A completed MBA, or a body of work — senior leadership roles, P&L ownership, enterprise strategy contribution — that evidences equivalent commercial and strategic depth.
- Demonstrated IP creation. Accelerators, methodologies, or reference architectures you’ve built that you can walk us through.
- Comfortable with scale-up reality. You understand what a Principal role at a scale-up actually involves, and you see the opportunity in it.
- Security clearance. You currently hold, or are eligible to hold, an Australian Government NV1 clearance. Australian citizenship is required for eligibility.
Nice to have
- Formal project management credentials (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt) and demonstrable process improvement outcomes.
- Prior experience in a boutique or challenger consulting firm.
- Industry workflow depth in Telco and/or Mining.
What we offer
- Competitive base salary benchmarked to senior Principal / Associate Partner level in the Australian ServiceNow market.
- Short-Term and Long-Term Incentives (STI & LTI) tied to engagement delivery outcomes, client expansion, and capability build milestones, with meaningful long-term participation in Mazing’s continued growth.
- IP participation. Under Mazing’s IP Unit Policy, contributions to accelerators and productised IP can earn ongoing participation beyond salary.
- Certification and learning budget covering ServiceNow, AI, and regulated industry accreditations.
- Genuine flexibility with a Sydney or Melbourne base, hybrid working, and travel to client sites as engagements require.
- A seat at the leadership table. You’ll have real influence over Mazing’s technical direction, hiring standard, and AI strategy.
About Mazing
Mazing is an Australian-headquartered ServiceNow partner operating across the APAC region with teams in Australia and India. We hold ServiceNow Specialist Consulting & Implementation level. Our clients include ASX-listed, regulated and government organisations where platform decisions carry real consequence.
We think of ourselves as a boutique challenger — working to be a credible alternative on regulated enterprise shortlists alongside much larger firms. We’re senior by design, selective about the work we take on, and focused on the outcomes our clients are actually paying for. We know we’ve still got plenty to prove, and we’d like to do that alongside people who hold themselves to the same standard.
How to apply
Send us your CV and a short cover note. We’re more interested in what you’ve actually shipped and the hardest problem you’ve solved on platform than in polished marketing prose.
Applications will be treated in strict confidence, and we’ll do our best to respond to every candidate who takes the time to apply.
Melbourne or Sydney based preferred – other Australian based locations considered.
Mazing is an equal opportunity employer. Australian citizenship required for NV1 clearance eligibility.
