Role Overview
The Program Manager is responsible for end-to-end planning, execution, and governance of a portfolio of products and projects. This role ensures alignment with strategic objectives, drives delivery excellence across Agile and Waterfall frameworks, and enforces PMO standards, compliance, and reporting. The Program Manager acts as the central orchestrator across business, technology, and operations to ensure timely, high-quality, and value-driven outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program & Portfolio Management
- Lead and manage a portfolio of products/projects from initiation to closure.
- Ensure alignment with organizational strategy, business priorities, and digital transformation goals.
- Define program roadmap, milestones, interdependencies, and critical paths.
- Drive prioritization and sequencing of initiatives based on business value, risk, and resource capacity.
2. Delivery Execution (Agile & Waterfall)
- Oversee delivery using hybrid methodologies (Agile, Scrum, SAFe, and Waterfall).
- Ensure proper sprint planning, backlog grooming, release planning, and stage-gate adherence.
- Monitor delivery progress against scope, schedule, cost, and quality baselines.
- Enable continuous delivery, DevOps integration, and iterative releases where applicable.
- Ensure clear definition of deliverables: Epics, Features, User Stories (Agile) and WBS, milestones (Waterfall).
3. PMO Governance & Compliance
- Enforce PMO frameworks, standards, templates, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with governance checkpoints (e.g., stage gates, design reviews, go-live readiness).
- Maintain program documentation: business cases, project plans, RAID logs, status reports.
- Drive adherence to regulatory, audit, security, and data governance requirements.
- Establish and monitor KPIs, SLAs, and delivery health metrics.
4. Stakeholder & Communication Management
- Engage senior stakeholders, sponsors, and cross-functional teams.
- Establish clear communication cadence (steering committees, program reviews, status updates).
- Manage expectations, resolve escalations, and drive decision-making.
- Ensure client/business sign-offs at key milestones.
5. Risk, Issue & Dependency Management
- Identify, assess, and mitigate program-level risks and issues.
- Maintain RAID logs and ensure proactive resolution mechanisms.
- Manage inter-project dependencies and cross-functional impacts.
- Implement contingency and rollback strategies.
6. Financial & Resource Management
- Manage program budgets, forecasts, and cost optimization.
- Ensure effective resource planning, allocation, and utilization.
- Track financial performance against approved budgets and business cases.
7. Quality Assurance & Go-Live Readiness
- Ensure quality gates across SDLC (design, development, testing, deployment).
- Oversee UAT, performance testing, security testing (VAPT), and compliance validation.
- Drive go-live readiness assessments including operational readiness, support models, and rollback plans.
- Ensure post-go-live stabilization and benefits realization tracking.
8. Product & User Experience Oversight
- Collaborate with Product Managers to align delivery with product vision and roadmap.
- Ensure user-centric design, UX consistency, and adoption-focused delivery.
- Support continuous improvement based on user feedback and analytics.
9. Continuous Improvement & Transformation
- Drive process improvements across delivery lifecycle.
- Promote Agile maturity, DevOps practices, and automation.
- Institutionalize lessons learned and best practices within PMO.
Key Skills & Competencie
