Focusing on the areas of biomanufacturing & bioscience, microelectronics & ICT, clean growth, and mobility, TICAN is supporting Canadian firms to be leaders in these critical sectors and ensuring access to a talent pipeline to support their long-term technology roadmaps.  

TICAN launched in late 2025 and is building the team to deliver this impactful vision.  Reporting to the Associate Director of Programs, and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer and the business development team, the inaugural program officer will have the opportunity to work directly with students, researchers, and companies to implement the operational processes required to effectively and efficiently deliver this program. In addition, they will have the opportunity to adjust and refine the program’s operational process as the program grows and scales across the country in partnership with universities and other organizations.  As part of a rapidly growing start-up organization, the incumbent must be comfortable with some ambiguity and excited about the possibility to build something great.  

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide timely support to current and potential program participants, including students, faculty members, researchers, and industry partners
  • Make recommendations for changes to program documentation in response to feedback from program participants
  • Ensure proper documentation collection and storage for individual projects funded through TICAN
  • Ensure that CRM system is regularly updated with accurate program and participant data
  • Confirm receipt of all required documentation from program participants, following up individually as required
  • Implement funding competitions to solicit applications to the program
  • Ensure all required program metrics are collected and stored accurately
  • Support government reporting requirements through reporting of program metrics
  • Work collaboratively with other organizations to implement joint funding competitions
  • Maintain proper version control for all program documentation
  • Collaborate with TICAN teams to develop programmatic content for program funding proposals and communication initiatives

Key skills, attributes, experience, and qualifications:

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to details
  • Strong communication skills, especially in written communication
  • Computer and generally tech-savvy; working knowledge of Microsoft Office and data management systems
  • Multitasking and administrative skills to manage several large- and small-scale activities
  • Willingness to take on new challenges independently and in a team environment
  • Highly collaborative professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge or experience with the Canadian innovation ecosystem
  • Knowledge or experience working within a university or the Canadian post-secondary ecosystem
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working remotely within a team
  • Excitement by the opportunity to build something from scratch
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in program-oriented role
  • A university degree; graduate degree preferred
  • Proficiency in both French and English strongly preferred
