About COLEAD & the programme
COLEAD is a non-profit interprofessional association founded in 1973 whose main purpose is to facilitate and implement actions that increase the contribution of the agri-food sector to achieving the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
COLEAD manages development projects in the agricultural and food sector in low and low-middle income countries, mainly financed by the European Union.
As part of the implementation of the THRIVE Zimbabwe (Transforming Horticulture for Resilient, Inclusive & Value-driven Exports) programme, COLEAD is recruiting a Programme Coordinator.
The Role
Based in Harare, the Programme Coordinator will lead the day-to-day coordination and operational management of the THRIVE Zimbabwe programme, working closely with COLEAD's teams in Harare, Nairobi, Brussels and Lomé, as well as national stakeholders and institutional partners.
The successful candidate will ensure the effective planning, implementation, monitoring and delivery of programme activities, while fostering collaboration across partners and supporting Zimbabwe's horticultural sector to strengthen its competitiveness and access to export markets.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day coordination and operational follow-up of programme implementation, ensuring activities are effectively planned, delivered and monitored
- Coordinate the preparation, implementation, monitoring and reporting of annual work plans, programme milestones, indicators, risks and deliverables
- Provide strategic oversight of programme implementation, anticipating risks and bottlenecks and proposing practical solutions
- Coordinate inputs from COLEAD's technical teams, consultants, experts and partners to ensure timely, high-quality programme delivery
- Supervise the implementation and follow-up of development projects for partner beneficiaries across the horticultural sector
- Maintain strong working relationships with government institutions, private sector organisations, producer groups, development partners and other key stakeholders
- Represent COLEAD and the programme at technical, institutional and policy meetings, workshops and sector events
- Coordinate with the EU Delegation, relevant ministries, sector associations and complementary development programmes to strengthen collaboration and maximise impact
- Support programme monitoring, reporting, expenditure verification processes and implementation of recommendations
- Contribute to communication, visibility and knowledge-sharing activities in line with EU communication guidelines
Profile
- University degree in agronomy, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, economics, management, project management or a related field
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience coordinating complex programmes or projects in Zimbabwe's horticulture or agri-food sector
- Strong knowledge of horticultural value chains, export markets, private sector development, and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) or regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated experience in programme planning, results-based management, monitoring, reporting and stakeholder coordination
- Established professional networks within Zimbabwe's horticulture sector and experience working with public institutions, private sector organisations and development partners
- Proven leadership, analytical, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and build effective partnerships
- Experience working in international development or multicultural environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital collaboration tools
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken); knowledge of Shona, Ndebele, French, Portuguese or Spanish is an asset
- Experience using digital tools and artificial intelligence to improve efficiency and quality of work is an asset
Conditions
📍 Full-time position based in Harare
✈️ Regular travel within Zimbabwe and occasional travel within Eastern Africa, Belgium and key export markets may be required.
