Position: PROJECT LEAD TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
Your primary responsibilities
as a Project Lead, Transportation Services – Enforcement and Street Management
, will be varied, but you will be expected to:
Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate detailed plans and through those plans recommends improvements that can be made to the design and operations of City streets.
Manage assigned projects, ensuring effective teamwork, communication, and high standards of work quality to advance the Division’s initiatives in a complex municipal environment.
Represent the Division as part of a project team, review and provide technical input and participate in project-related community engagements.
Facilitate requests originating from elected officials and the public, coordinate divisional input and assess project feasibility.
Prepare project plans, reports and status updates for senior staff, City Council and/or public reference.
Assist in the design, construction and maintenance of transportation assets. Assist in setting technical standards and specifications.
Supervise project team members and support staff, including work term students and provide coverage of Supervisor when required.
Manage multiple and complex assignments and provide support to Engineering Technologists on complex issues.
Prepare project plans, reports and status updates for senior staff, City Council and/or public reference.
Foster and maintain effective working relationships with other units, other divisions, agencies, elected officials, consultants and other partners.

Conduct research into assigned areas ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government and best practices in other jurisdictions.
Monitor projects to ensure completion in accordance with approved plans and agreements.
Ensure compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other related provincial regulations and corporate and divisional safety standards and procedures.
Act as a resource person for requests and inquiries related to Divisional activities.
Work effectively and independently with consultants, staff, City Councillors, individuals, businesses, community groups, and other key partners/stakeholders to deliver the services and program-related projects.
Coordinate/attend public consultation meetings in collaboration with divisional and agency partners and elected officials concerning impacts of larger scale and complex projects.
Key
Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in civil engineering or transportation engineering technology, project management, or a discipline pertinent to the job function or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Considerable experience in project management / coordination, activities and assignments from inception through to implementation with minimal direction while balancing political, community and other stakeholder interests.
Experience leading project teams and developing collaborative internal and external business relationships.
Knowledge of traffic engineering technologies, theories and practices.
Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License and must qualify for the City’s equipment operating permit
Ability to effectively represent the Division and to maintain relations and work with community and elected officials, internal and external stakeholders, and members of the general public.
Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide work direction to staff.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply legislation and technical documents such as the Highway Traffic Act, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Ontario Traffic Manual, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Labour Guidelines, and any of the City of Toronto’s by-laws, technical standards, policies and standard operating procedures.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including: verbal and written communication; formal presentation; active listening; and attentive observation.
Proficient in the use of a variety of software; high proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is a requirement. Working knowledge of any or all of the following is considered an asset: traffic simulation software (e.g. Synchro); GIS platforms (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS); CAD design (e.g. Micro Station).
Ability to work beyond normal business hours (e.g. evenings and/or weekends) on occasion as required (e.g. for public engagement events).
