Job Purpose
The Property Officer is responsible for maintaining Britam's buildings, offices, and associated infrastructure in a safe, functional, clean, and efficient condition. The role delivers first-line maintenance services, supports facilities operations, supervises contractors on site, responds to maintenance requests within agreed service levels, and ensures compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Planned & Reactive Maintenance
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities across assigned properties.
- Attend to maintenance work orders within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Perform electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry and general handyman works.
- Carry out routine inspections and identify maintenance defects before failures occur.
- Maintain maintenance records and close work orders accurately.

- Verify quality of workmanship before acceptance.
- Report contractor performance to the Facilities Manager.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements.
- Conduct routine workplace safety inspections.
- Identify and report hazards.
- Ensure all maintenance works comply with statutory regulations.
- Promote safe work practices and use appropriate PPE.
- Asset Management
- Support asset verification and tagging exercises.
- Update maintenance records for building assets.
- Report damaged or obsolete assets.
- Support lifecycle maintenance planning.
- Emergency Response
- Participate in emergency maintenance response.
- Support fire drills and emergency preparedness activities.
- Respond to utility failures and critical building incidents.
- Sustainability
- Promote energy conservation initiatives.
- Monitor water leaks and wastage.
- Support waste segregation and recycling initiatives.
- Report opportunities for operational efficiency.
- Inventory & Stores
- Monitor maintenance consumables.
- Raise requests for replacement materials.
- Ensure proper accountability of issued tools and spare parts.
- Documentation
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs.
- Complete inspection checklists.
- Record completed works in the Facilities Management System.
- Prepare weekly maintenance reports.
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications required and Essential Competencies – External
- Diploma or Craft Certificate in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services, Plumbing or related technical field.
- Multi-skilled certification in electrical, plumbing, carpentry or building maintenance.
- OSHA or Occupational Health & Safety certification.
- Valid Trade Test Certification.
