Position Summary
PSCI 354 / IS 325 – Democracy and Authoritarianism in Contemporary Latin America
This course discusses the historical construction of Latin American political regimes, such as oligarchy, populism, and dictatorship, as well as the transition to democracy. It will approach individual country cases and regional trends, as well as relations between Latin American nations and foreign powers.
Position Requirements
• MA or PhD in International Studies, Political Science or related discipline. Preference related to academic qualifications will be given in the following order: applicants with PhDs; applicants who have completed all PhD coursework and are enrolled in a PhD program; applicants who have completed all PhD coursework but are not currently enrolled in a PhD program; applicants who are enrolled in a PhD program but have not completed PhD coursework;
applicants with a Masters degree.
• Expertise in the area of Latin American politics, as demonstrated in a record of related research and publication, or in extensive previous teaching on the subject.
• A record of effective teaching at the post-secondary level.
