Company Description Bridge For Women Development Initiative (BOWDI) is a voluntary, non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting girls and women, particularly those affected by insecurity and displacement in Borno State and surrounding areas. The organization focuses on education, psychosocial support, health awareness, and skills training to help women and girls rebuild their lives and reduce vulnerability to social risks. BOWDI works to safeguard their dignity, strengthen their future prospects, and contribute to healthier, more resilient communities. Through classroom education, health discussions, and vocational capacity-building, the initiative aims to reduce illiteracy and ignorance and promote long-term social and economic development. BOWDI is strictly non-political and emphasizes collective action to ensure that affected girls and women can grow in safe, supportive environments.
Role Description The Psychosocial Support Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Pulka. The role involves providing individual and group psychosocial support to girls and women, including basic counseling, emotional support, and referrals to specialized services when needed. The officer will conduct community outreach and awareness sessions on mental health, well-being, and protection issues, and help design and run safe-space activities and support groups. Daily tasks include maintaining confidential case records, monitoring beneficiaries’ progress, and coordinating with program staff, community leaders, and partner organizations to ensure integrated support. The Psychosocial Support Officer will also contribute to needs assessments, reporting, and the development of tools and materials that enhance the quality and impact of BOWDI’s programs.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong psychosocial support and basic counseling skills, including experience facilitating group sessions and safe-space activities.
- Candidates should possess community engagement and outreach skills, including the ability to build trust with diverse groups and work effectively with local leaders and partners.
- Candidates should possess case management and documentation skills, including maintaining confidential records and preparing clear, concise reports.
- Candidates should possess communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to work with individuals facing trauma and stress.
- Candidates should possess program coordination and organizational skills, including planning activities, managing time effectively, and supporting monitoring and evaluation processes.
- A diploma or degree in social work, psychology, counseling, community development, or a related field is highly beneficial.
- Experience working with displaced populations, survivors of violence, or conflict-affected communities is an advantage.
- Fluency in English and relevant local languages, and a strong commitment to gender equality, safeguarding, and non-discriminatory practices are required.
