Position: Public Defender Attorney I
Responsibilities
- Present and argue cases in court as assigned.
- Prepare and try criminal cases.
- Prepare and argue motions.
- Negotiate plea bargains on behalf of criminally charged clients and represent indigent clients charged with crimes at preliminary hearings.
- Participate in case investigation, including crime scene investigation, interview witnesses and victims, and examine evidence.
- Research legal issues, evaluate and prepare witnesses for trial.
- Select juries, etc.
Qualifications
- Requires Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Must possess and maintain current membership in the S.C. Bar Association.
